OVERVIEW
This 26-foot 1977 GMC Motorhome Royale by Coachmen Industries comes appointed with a retractable awning, auxiliary lights, Bridgestone tires, and interior conveniences such as a water filtration system, a refrigerator, sleeping quarters, solid wood cabinetry, a central vacuum system, a stove, and a stainless steel sink. It is powered by a rebuilt replacement 403cid V8 mated to a Turbo-Hydramatic 425 three-speed automatic transmission and an upgraded 3.71:1 final drive ratio. Finished in yellow with dark brown and black accent stripes over a tan and earth-tone interior with woodgrain trim, this Motorhome is now offered with manuals; a parts book; a kit with spare fuses, bulbs, and connectors; and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The yellow 26-foot fiberglass and aluminum exterior features brown and black accents and is constructed around an aluminum cage. Features include chrome bumpers, fog lamps, clearance lights, swing-away side mirrors, dual fuel tanks, a retractable awning, Soft-Ray tinted windows with aluminum screens, a rear-mounted spare tire, a step ladder, and a tow hitch-mounted aluminum cargo carrier.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
The aluminum 16-inch wheels are wrapped in six Bridgestone Dueler A/T tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The Royale interior is fitted with tan cloth captain’s chairs at the front of the cabin. Driver controls include a Sony stereo with a remote ten-disc CD changer, a 30,000-BTU furnace, and air conditioning. The rear passenger compartment has modular furnishings including seats that convert into beds; the countertops are covered in a walnut laminate. Features include a stainless steel double sink, a three-burner range, an electric refrigerator with a separate freezer compartment, solid wood cabinetry, and a three-stage reclining dinette unit with flip-up sides for the table. A water filtration system and a NuTone blender and mixer that connects to a socket on the counter have been installed.
Equipment additions put in under the seller’s ownership include a Winegard satellite television antenna, coaxial wiring, a SiriusXM satellite radio antenna, a built-in battery charger and power inverter, and a central vacuum with a hose and attachments. The bathroom has a shower with a detachable shower head, a sliding-door medicine cabinet, a sink, a tempered glass mirror, and a new elongated and elevated toilet for handicapped use. According to the seller, the tub, shower, and sink have been recoated with fiberglass paint.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes an 85-mph speedometer and a combination gauge for the oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 83,000 miles, which the seller asserts is the true mileage on the chassis.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The replacement 403cid V8 was serviced in spring 2023 and has reportedly accrued 19,000 miles since being rebuilt. Upgrades include Doug Thorley stainless steel headers and a new stainless steel exhaust system. Power is sent to the front wheels via a column-shifted Turbo-Hydramatic 425 three-speed automatic transmission and an upgraded 3.71:1 final drive ratio.
UNDERCARRIAGE AND MECHANICAL
The independent front suspension uses torsion bars and the rear air suspension has two height control valves and a single replacement airbag. Braking is handled by power discs up front and quad drums in the rear. An electric fuel pump has been added along with emergency brake assist.

The coach is winterized and ready to travel through cold. Depending on how much time you need, arrangements could be made for you to pay for the storage for up to a few months, until you could pick it up.
@kdredrig – I see there is a rack on the back would fit wheelhair . Does it happen to have hand controls in the Keith ...
Rack on the back would definitely fit a wheelchair. There are no electric controls, only a manual drop down ramp. The rack mounts in the hitch receiver and is fully removable .
@kdredrig – If weather is bad could we get extra time to remove the motor home? Is the home ready for winter travelling ? I'm just in Ontario not to far away I always liked that GMC motor. Parts for the drive power are available . Keith ...

@georgesabin – I have always admired the GMC Palm Beach units, this Royal seems even nicer. Have you replaced any of the steering components, bushings hoses & tubing on holding tanks water supply, water heater propane tanks, Radiator ? ...
Hi George, The steering components were replaced about 6 years ago except for the steering gear, which, coincidentally the sale will include a brand new in the box- steering gear. The coach drives fine, but replacing the steering gear will tighten it up even more. Some of the water supply hoses and fitting have been replaced and some are original but function well. Propane tank was rebuilt in 2013, along with new fittings. I believe, and would be able to confirm for certain, New fresh water and great water tanks were installed around 2010.
