OVERVIEW
This LA Exotics Shelby Cobra replica has been with the seller for 30 years and is powered by a rebuilt Ford top-oiler 427cid V8 backed by a rebuilt Ford Toploader four-speed manual transmission. Features include rack-and-pinion steering, Deist four-point harnesses, a Hurst shifter, VDO gauges, and power disc brakes. Finished in Ferrari Red over a black vinyl interior, this Cobra replica is titled as a 1965 Ford in the seller's name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
According to the seller, this Cobra replica was purchased in partially built and non-running condition in 1989. The entire body was taken apart, finished in Ferrari Red PPG acrylic enamel, then reassembled in 1994. Features include chrome tube nerf bars, a hood scoop, side pipes, and a flip-up aluminum fuel filler cap. The seller states that there are no windshield wipers or a top because the car is not driven in the rain.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of 15” x 7” simulated knock-off wheels with chrome rims and aluminum knock-off center caps are wrapped in 235/60 front and 295/50 rear Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cabin is furnished with black vinyl bucket seats surrounded by black vinyl door panels and a matching dashboard. Features include manual rack-and-pinion steering, a floor-mounted Hurst Competition/Plus manual transmission shifter, Deist safety harnesses, and black carpeting with sound-damping and thermal insulation. The carpeted trunk houses the battery.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
A set of VDO gauges that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and readouts for the fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage are located ahead of the driver. The odometer shows the 13,894 miles added during the seller's 30-year ownership, which the seller reports reflects the mileage accrued since the car and the engine were put together.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a rebuilt Ford top-oiler FE 427cid V8 and backed by a rebuilt Ford Toploader four-speed manual transmission with a McCleod Racing clutch and hydraulic throw-out bearing. The seller states that the 10:1-compression engine was purchased from Ford Power Parts in Norwalk, California in the early 1990s and rebuilt at that time using stock heads, crankshaft, pistons, and rods. Engine bay features include finned aluminum valve covers, an Isky Racing Cams hydraulic camshaft, a Sidewinder aluminum high-rise intake manifold, a Holley 780-cfm four-barrel carburetor, a K&N air filter, an electric fan, and an electric thermostat with a manual override control. Earlier in 2023, the carburetor was rebuilt, the oil was changed, and a new fuel pump and coolant reservoir were installed.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Cobra replica is equipped with an independent front suspension and a Ford nine-inch solid rear drive axle with 3.70:1 gears. Braking is provided by power four-wheel discs. A 16-gallon fuel cell is located under the trunk.
