454-POWERED 1972 CHEVROLET NOVA COUPE

OVERVIEW

This 1972 Chevrolet Nova coupe receives power from a 454cid big-block V8 mated to a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Its body has been mini-tubbed to accommodate staggered-width Mickey Thompson tires on Race Star aluminum wheels. Equipment includes chrome brightwork, bucket seats, a B&M shifter, a spool rear end, and a custom exhaust setup. Finished in red with black stripes over a gray cloth and black vinyl interior, this third-generation Nova is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The red exterior contrasts with the black racing stripes on the hood and the decklid. Equipment includes chrome bumpers, a driver-side mirror, and a black taillight garnish. Although the car is badged as an SS 396 around the exterior, the car’s powertrain specifications differ.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Polished aluminum Race Star five-spoke wheels are wrapped in a staggered-width set of Mickey Thompson tires that include 325/50R15 ET Street radials at the rear.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The cabin has gray cloth bucket seats with black vinyl accents up front; the rear seat has been removed to accommodate a mini-tub setup for the wider rear tires. Features include manual-crank windows, a custom steering wheel, G-Force Racing Gear safety restraints, tinted windows, and a B&M shifter. The trunk provides access to the fuel cell, which was installed in place of the factory fuel tank.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a sweeping 120-mph speedometer, a fuel gauge, and dual under-dash readouts for engine vitals. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 41 miles, although the dealer notes that the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The non-original 454cid big-block V8 has been upgraded with Edelbrock valve covers, an Edelbrock air cleaner, a camshaft, and a dual exhaust system. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted TH400 three-speed automatic transmission and a Ford nine-inch spool-style rear end with 3.91:1 gearing.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Stopping is performed by manual disc brakes.
