OVERVIEW
This track-focused 1992 Porsche 968 coupe has been modified for competition driving but remains street-legal. Its 3.0-liter I4 received a rebuild in 2011 that equipped it with Pauter forged connecting rods, Wossner pistons, a Speed-6 chip, and RS Barn oil coolers. Power is channeled to the rear through a six-speed manual transaxle and a Guard Transmission torque-biasing differential. The suspension has been updated with Moton shocks, Racer’s Edge bushings, and Weltmeister sway bars. Finished in metallic gray over a light gray leather interior, this 968 is now offered by the selling dealer with removed black and red fabric Sparco and Corbeau seats, a CARFAX report, and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The metallic gray exterior features a tow hook, ground effects, a vented fiberglass hood with AeroCatch hood latches, fixed headlights with Lexan covers, European-style front turn signal lenses, a manually operated sunroof, a rear spoiler, and a polished exhaust outlet. According to the selling dealer, the front bumper bar, fog lights, and rear window wiper assembly have been removed. In addition, they report the front bumper cover and right-front fender were repaired and repainted after on-track incidents.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Forged 17" x 10.5" Signature Wheels SV103 wheels are wrapped in 255/40 Falken Azenis RT660 tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The cockpit has a tubular half roll cage and is fitted with light gray leather seats and gray trim for the door panels, dash, visors, and carpeting. The cruise control system, air conditioning, rear seat, and rear carpeting have been removed. Features include tinted power windows, a MOMO steering wheel, and an AiM data acquisition system.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 180-mph speedometer, a 7,000+-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. An oil temperature gauge, air/fuel meter, and power switch for the data acquisition system are mounted in the center stack in place of the removed stereo. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 135,000 miles. The selling dealer notes that the odometer did not work for a period of time in 2018, which means the total mileage on this vehicle is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 3.0-liter I4 was rebuilt in 2011 and features the following equipment:
- Canton oil filter canister
- Cross-drilled crankshaft
- Fidanza aluminum single-mass flywheel
- Lindsey Racing oil pan trap door
- Lindsey Racing Ultra Mount engine mounts
- Pauter forged connecting rods
- Reinforced oil pick-up tube
- Wossner 11:1-compression pistons
The alternator has been relocated, and the piston tops, combustion chambers, valve faces, exhaust ports, and exhaust manifold were ceramic-coated. Additional equipment reportedly includes a drilled air box, RS Barn cat-back exhaust, Speed-6 chip, and dual RS Barn oil coolers. The CARFAX report shows maintenance in April 2023 included the replacement of the spark plugs, fuel filter, power steering lines, oil pan, and fluids. In addition, service in 2022 included the installation of an Antigravity lightweight battery and the replacement of the timing belt, water pump, balance shaft belt, and rollers. Service in 2021 covered the replacement of the pinion bearings and the installation of a Guard Transmission torque-biasing differential, a Black Sea R&D driveshaft, and upgraded bearings. The factory split torque tube has been replaced with a custom-built solid unit. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a console-shifted six-speed manual transaxle.
UNDERCARRIAGE
Stopping comes from power-assisted disc brakes with red Porsche 944 Turbo S calipers and cross-drilled rotors. The suspension has been upgraded with 550-pound front and 800-pound rear springs, a bump steer kit, Aurora bearings, Weltmeister adjustable front and rear sway bars, Moton dampers and dual-adjustable shocks, a solid steering rack bushing, and a rear coilover conversion. Design1 Racing components were used for the strut tower brace, firewall brace, and lower suspension brace. Additionally, Racer’s Edge spherical suspension bushings, camber plates, heavy-duty control arms, extended ball joint pins, and billet hubs have been installed.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The CARFAX report begins in October 1992 and shows ownership in Arkansas, Texas, and California. Minor damage to the right rear corner of the vehicle was reported in November 2012. The last emissions check was in Texas in 2015; the selling dealer states that the car is currently compliant. A pair of black and red fabric Sparco and Corbeau seats will come with the purchase of the car.
