OVERVIEW
This 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible receives power from a 1.6-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. It comes with chrome bumpers, twin exhaust outlets, map pockets, and a radio. Finished in yellow and equipped with a black canvas retractable top over a black vinyl interior, this Beetle is now offered by the selling dealer with a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The yellow body is capped off with a black canvas retractable top. Features include chrome bumpers, front fender-mounted turn signals, side mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Steel 15-inch wheels with VW-branded hubcaps are wrapped in Mastercraft tires.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The interior is trimmed with black vinyl bucket seats up front, a bench in the rear, and matching door panels, dash, carpeting, and floor mats. Features include manual-crank windows, map pockets, a radio, and a cargo basket.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation consists of a 90-mph speedometer with an inset fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 93,654 miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The rear-mounted, air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-four directs power to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted four-speed manual transaxle.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This Super Beetle came from the factory with the new-for-1971 independent front suspension and an independent rear suspension.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The dealer has provided a video showing the exterior, interior, engine bay, a start-up, and a driving demonstration.

@BarbaraJ – Can we request an independent review before we bid ...
Hello, thank you for your interest! You are welcome to send in an independent 3rd party inspector or come view the car at anytime after the auction. This is recommended after as if the reserve isn't achieved or you are not the winning bidder - would hate to see this effort or funds wasted! Thank you for your question.
Also, the Super Beetle had a coil spring suspension in front, supposedly to give a softer "American preferred" ride as opposed to the torsion bar of previous models. The front wheels were a couple of inches wider apart than the rears on the standard beetle.
@Alleycat – hello....not sure if she is "super beetle"....I remember that model having a curved windshield adjacent to A pillar... ...
The 1971/72 Super Beetle convertibles were "flat windshield" cars with the round speedometer. The curved windshield appeared on the 73 and later cars, which also had a "squared off" speedometer that projected above the dash. 71 was also the first year of the Super Beetle.

Do you have any pics of the bottom side of the vehicle? Does the floor pan have any rust issues?

Those seat covers are not like the original original. The original covers were a "simulated basket weave" for want of a better description. When I was a teenager I had an "off the showroom floor" 71 Vert, and still have one just like it. The original pattern was textured, not smooth.

@ElkwoodPagosa – Nice car. 1st time bidder. Is this the original paint and/or the original color? Has the chassis been off the frame? Tks. Jim—- ...
Hello Jim! Thanks for your interest and great questions. Unfortunately without documented proof we cannot make assumptions about the age of the restoration or if the body has ever been off of the frame. However in my personal opinion, I believe the paint wouldn't be in as good of condition if it were still original from 1971. Happy bidding!
