Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This custom 1956 Ford F-100 pickup receives power from a high-compression 460cid big-block V8 mated to a C6 three-speed automatic transmission and a nine-inch rear end. It was engineered under prior ownership for drag racing and is offered as-is in need of the mechanical work described below. Equipment includes a power tilt-forward front clip, Weld wheels, power steering, bucket seats, air conditioning, a RetroSound stereo, and power front disc brakes. Finished in Torch Red over a black leather interior, this F-100 is now offered with documentation, a spare pair of rear wheels and tires, and a clear title in the name of the seller's LLC.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The exterior was resprayed in Torch Red during customization under prior ownership and reportedly employs all-steel construction except for the roll pans. The front end implements a 1980s-era Chevrolet Camaro front clip with a tilt-forward design that uses remotely activated electronic actuators. Additional equipment includes chrome bumpers, a hood scoop, a power-activated cowl vent, color-keyed running boards, cherry wood bed planks, a bed-mounted battery, and a polished aluminum fuel filler door. The selling dealer notes that there is a scrape on the driver-side running board as shown in the gallery to the right.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Weld Racing 15-inch polished aluminum wheels are wrapped in 26" x 7.5" front and 29" x 15.5" rear Mickey Thompson tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The interior of the cab has late-model black leather bucket seats separated by a 2013 Lincoln center console that was retrofitted with a Ford F-150 shifter. Amenities include vinyl door panels, manual-crank windows, aluminum doorsill plates, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, air conditioning, tinted windows, a RetroSound AM/FM radio with lighted speakers, and floor mats. A power steering system with a new pump and gearbox has been installed.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a non-functioning 90-mph speedometer, a dash-mounted Sun 8,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, voltage, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 8,650 miles, although the true mileage on the chassis is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The high-compression 460cid big-block V8 has domed pistons and was reportedly designed for racing applications when installed by the prior owner. The selling dealer states that the engine is believed to have a flat lobe at the #7 cylinder. As a result, it will eventually overheat due to improper cylinder firing. Recent mechanical work includes the installation of a Champion Pro-series three-row aluminum radiator; an electric fan shroud with dual fans; a new air conditioning compressor, condenser, accumulator, evaporator, and hoses; a new thermostat housing and gasket; stainless-steel radiator flex hose; a high-torque starter; a March Performance serpentine belt kit; and an Optima battery. Fuel comes from an electric pump with the filler mounted at the rear frame and an under-bed fuel cell. Output is sent to the back wheels via a console-shifted C6 three-speed automatic transmission and a spooled Ford nine-inch rear end.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Stopping comes from power-assisted front disc brakes and rear drums with an adjustable proportioner valve. The brake pads, shoes, front calipers, and rear wheel cylinders were recently replaced.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

A spare pair of rear wheels with street tires will come with the truck, as well as a folder of documentation from both prior and current ownership. The dealer has provided a video showing the front clip's power-tilt feature.
