OVERVIEW

This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette Indianapolis 500 Pace Car Edition is one of 6,502 produced to commemorate the 62nd annual Indianapolis 500 race held on May 28, 1978. It has covered 29,538 miles since new and has been with the seller since they purchased it on AutoHunter in September 2022. Power is supplied by a 350ci V8 and backed by a three-speed automatic transmission. Features include Indianapolis 500 pace car trim, new tinted removable roof panels, power steering and windows, air conditioning, a tilt and telescoping steering column, a factory AM/FM/8-track stereo, and power brakes with upgraded pads and rotors. Finished in black and silver over a gray leather interior, this C3 Corvette comes with uninstalled pace car decals, a car cover, and a clear title in the seller's name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The exterior is finished in black over silver and accented with red striping. Features include color-keyed urethane bumpers, pop-up headlights, a front spoiler, new removable tinted glass roof panels, rocker trim, color-keyed sport mirror housings with a manual driver-side remote, a power antenna, and a rear spoiler. The seller states that a couple of blemishes are present on the top of the left front fender. In addition, the radio antenna does not rise automatically, but it can be manually raised.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 15-inch aluminum Corvette wheels with chrome center caps and red accent stripes is wrapped in P255/60 Goodyear Eagle GTII radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The cabin is furnished with bucket seats upholstered in gray leather surrounded by gray door panels and trim. Features include power windows and steering, a tilt and telescoping steering column, a center console-mounted automatic transmission shifter, a factory AM/FM/8-track cassette stereo, air conditioning, and a heated rear window.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and auxiliary gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. With 500 miles added during the seller's ownership, the odometer reads 29,538 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a 350ci V8 and backed by a three-speed automatic transmission. The air conditioning system was recharged in 2022 with R12 refrigerant. A new fuel pump, fuel line, and valve covers were installed and an oil change was completed in 2021.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Corvette was factory-equipped with a four-wheel independent suspension and a rear drive axle. Stopping is performed by power disc brakes. Upgrades installed in 2021 include drilled and slotted high-performance brake rotors and new ceramic pads. Under previous ownership, the exhaust system was replaced from the catalytic converter to the rear, and the differential fluid was changed.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This Corvette was most recently sold on AutoHunter in December 2023, but it is now being relisted at a lower reserve price than before because the buyer backed out of the transaction; this was not due to any problem with the seller or the car. The seller will include a set of uninstalled pace car decals and a car cover as part of the sale.
