Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1930 Ford Model A Fordor Sedan "Leatherback" received cooling system, braking, and suspension updates since September 2022. It is powered by a 289cid V8 backed by a Ford C4 three-speed automatic transmission. Features include a radiator shell stone guard, a power moonroof, a rear trunk, bucket seats, a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo, rack-and-pinion steering, a tilt steering column, a Mustang II-style independent front suspension, and front disc brakes. Finished in black and orange and equipped with a fixed black canvas roof over a black vinyl and gray cloth interior, this Model A comes with repair documentation and a clear title in the seller's name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

During the build process, the steel body was finished in black and orange and equipped with fiberglass front fenders. Features include chrome bumpers, black sealed-beam headlight buckets, accent pinstriping, a radiator shell stone guard, a chrome flying quail radiator cap, a cowl-mounted antenna, a tilt-out windshield, dual rearview mirrors, a windshield visor, a power moonroof that was installed under previous ownership, a non-folding black canvas-covered roof, and a rear-mounted trunk that houses the relocated battery. The seller states that no rust is present on the body, minor patina can be found on the chassis, and a few paint chips are present. Additionally, the front doors need to be realigned and the trunk has a broken latch.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 14-inch front and 15-inch rear wheels is wrapped in 185/75 front and 245/60 rear Hankook radial tires that have 2022 dates codes and were installed in March 2023.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The cabin is furnished with black vinyl and gray cloth front bucket seats and a matching rear seat surrounded by black vinyl and gray cloth door panels and trim. Features include manual windows, manual steering, a tilt steering column, a floor-mounted automatic transmission shifter, a natural wood dashboard panel, a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo, Pioneer speakers, and red seat belts. The seller states that the rear windows need new felt and the vehicle is not equipped with heating or air conditioning.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A set of VDO gauges that includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and readouts for the fuel level, oil pressure, voltage, and water temperature are mounted ahead of the driver. With 800 miles added during the seller's 16-month ownership, the odometer reads 818 miles. The true mileage on this vehicle is unknown. The seller states that a new speedometer was installed in March 2023.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

Power is provided by a 289cid V8, which was reportedly sourced from a 1965 Ford Galaxie (block serial number C5AE6015E), and backed by a Ford C4 three-speed automatic transmission. Engine bay features include chrome valve covers, an aluminum intake manifold, a four-barrel carburetor, a chrome air cleaner housing, cast iron exhaust manifolds, and an electric fan. In September 2022, a new alternator and voltage regulator were installed and an oil change was performed. In June 2023, new upper and lower radiator hoses, a new heater bypass hose, and new antifreeze were installed. The battery was replaced in August 2023. In October of the same year, a new transmission pan, transmission filler tube, transmission dipstick, and transmission filter were put in along with new transmission fluid.

UNDERCARRIAGE

The chassis has been modified to accept a Mustang II-style independent front suspension with tubular control arms and rack-and-pinion steering as well as an eight-inch Ford solid rear axle with 3.55:1 gears. New axle seals, bearings, axles, and front and rear shocks have been installed. In January 2023, two rear lower link bars were replaced. Braking is provided by manual hydraulic front discs and rear drums. The rear drums, shoes, and hardware were updated in February 2023. A dual exhaust system exits at the rear.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The seller will include repair documentation that goes back to September 2022 with the purchase of the vehicle.

@ovaljoe – The shinning round piece just up from the rear body in the black top area is this where you put the gas in the car ? Looks like the gas fillers that you use for boats and rear relocation for aftermarket gas tanks for the bed of early model pickups....Is this what I'm seeing in your pictures? Other than that nice to see someone to put a Ford running gear in a Ford to keep it all Ford !!! ...

The gas tank was relocated to behind the rear seat and what you are seeing is the gas filler cap. It is the same as the ones used on boats.
