OVERVIEW
This 1957 Austin-Healey 100-6 BN4 is a British-built four-seat roadster powered by a rebuilt replacement 2.6-liter I6 mated to a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission with a Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit. Equipment includes bright trim, Dayton wire wheels, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, a Smiths heater, dual rebuilt SU carburetors, and a four-wheel disc brake conversion. Finished in two-tone red and black and equipped with a black removable hardtop over a black leather interior, this 100-6 is now offered by the selling dealer with removed original parts, spare parts as outlined below, a service manual, two keys, a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate, and a clear title.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
During a prior restoration, the originally Ivory White exterior was recoated in two-tone red and black. A factory-issued removable hardtop is painted black and features a replacement rear window. Additional equipment includes chrome bumpers with overriders, a chrome grille, driving lamps, bright fender trim, an antenna, a driver-side mirror, and exposed trunk hinges. The selling dealer calls attention to cosmetic imperfections around the body including panel gaps, paint chips, surface cracking, and a fender crease.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Dayton 15-inch 60-spoke wire wheels with replacement two-eared knock-off nuts are wrapped in Michelin XAS tires showing 2014 date codes.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The refurbished four-seat cabin offers black leather low-back bucket seats with red piping up front, a matching rear seat, and coordinated trim for the door panels, dash, and carpeting. Equipment includes red lap belts up front, a Moto-Lita steering wheel with a rebuilt trafficator assembly, a telescoping steering column, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, a passenger side grab-handle, a Smiths-branded under-dash heater, and a custom shift knob with an overdrive switch.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
The Smiths-branded instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 6,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure. The speedometer is said to read low although the speedometer cable and angle drive have been replaced. The five-digit mechanical odometer is inaccurate and reads 20,645 miles, 300 of which were added under current ownership. The true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The C-Series 2.6-liter I6 was rated at 102 horsepower when new and was rebuilt under prior ownership. Equipment includes dual SU carburetors, a Lucas coil, and an Austin-branded valve cover. Service under previous ownership included a rebuild of the carburetors and driveshaft, and the replacement of the harmonic balancer, radiator, and clutch. Under the selling dealer’s ownership over the past year, a section of brake line was installed to extend the bleed screw for the replacement clutch slave cylinder. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission with a 3.54:1 final drive ratio and an electronically actuated Laycock de Normanville overdrive unit.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The chassis uses an independent front suspension and a solid rear axle. Stopping power comes from manual four-wheel disc brakes with Austin-Healey front calipers and rotors along with Jaguar-sourced rear discs and hardware. The steering box has been rebuilt. The underbody is reportedly free of corrosion.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
