Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This 1957 Ford Thunderbird received an exterior and interior color change, updates to the fuel fuel system and exhaust, and a front disc brake conversion during a restoration completed approximately 10 years ago. It is powered by a non-original 292cid V8, which is backed by a three-speed manual transmission. Features include rear wheel skirts, chrome wire wheels, power steering, and an AM/FM/cassette radio. Finished in Torch Red and equipped with a Colonial White hardtop and a new white vinyl soft top over a red and white vinyl interior, this Thunderbird comes from the selling dealer with receipts and a clear title.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

Originally finished in Willow Green (code J), the reportedly rust-free body was refinished in Torch Red during the restoration. Features include chrome bumpers, a hood scoop, a fender-mounted antenna, dual rearview mirrors, manual fender vents, a Colonial White removable hardtop with porthole windows, a new white vinyl manual convertible top, and color-keyed removable rear wheel skirts. The selling dealer states that paint chips are present at the front where the hood meets the body. A walk-around video can be seen below.

EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES

A set of 14-inch Kelsey-Hayes chrome wheels is wrapped in Coker Classic whitewall radial tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

Originally upholstered in Cumberland and Willow (code XM), the bench seat has been upholstered in red and white vinyl, and is surrounded by red and white vinyl door panels and trim. Features include manual windows, power steering, a separate aftermarket center armrest with two cup holders, a floor-mounted manual transmission shifter, and an AM/FM/cassette radio.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

A 140-mph speedometer, a 5,000-rpm tachometer, a clock, and gauges for the fuel level and temperature are located ahead of the driver. The rolled-over odometer effectively shows 100,724 miles, but the true mileage on this vehicle is unknown.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The original 312cid V8 has been replaced with a 292cid V8, which is backed by a three-speed manual transmission. The selling dealer states that the engine has logged 3,000 miles since being installed about 10 years ago. Engine bay features include finned aluminum valve covers, a rebuilt Holley 4000 "teapot" carburetor, an electric cooling fan, a manual dual-circuit brake master cylinder, a new water pump, and a new battery. The selling dealer states that the fluids were serviced in 2023.

UNDERCARRIAGE

This Thunderbird was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. New front wheel bearings and seals have been installed. Braking is provided by manual front discs and rear drums. The fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel lines have been replaced. The new dual exhaust system exits through the rear bumper.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

The dealer will include receipts covering the past nine years as part of the sale.

@StillCruisin – How is rust? ...

Nothing more than slight surface rust on the frame and no visible signs of rust on the body. Thanks
