Vehicle Story

OVERVIEW

This recently serviced 1970 Volkswagen Beetle is powered by an air-cooled 1.6-liter flat-four mated to a four-speed manual transaxle. Within the last 100 miles, it received mechanical work on the fuel system, ignition system, and belts. Features include chrome brightwork, whitewall tires, a Bluetooth stereo, and a hydraulic brake system. Finished in orange over a black vinyl interior, this Beetle is now offered with a car cover, an owner’s manual, a installed new carburetor, other spare parts, and a clear title in the seller’s name.

EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The orange exterior has been resprayed and comes equipped with chrome bumpers and headlight rings, fender-mounted turn signals, a new windshield, a driver-side mirror, new rubber trim for the windows, and two rear exhaust outlets.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

Steel 15-inch wheels with VW-branded center caps are wrapped in older whitewall tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The interior is optioned with black vinyl high-back bucket seats up front, a bench in the rear, and matching materials for the door panels, padded dash, sun visors, and new carpeting. Features include door-mounted map pockets and armrests, manual-crank windows, a fresh-air ventilation system, a Bluetooth stereo, lap belts, and a newer package tray. The rubber door seals have been replaced. The front storage compartment contains a spare tire. According to the seller, the heater tubes need to be connected.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

The VDO-branded instrumentation includes an inoperative 90-mph speedometer that needs a new cable, as well as a fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 57,000 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The rear-mounted 1.6-liter air-cooled flat-four was rated at 57 horsepower and received a tune-up within the last 100 miles that involved service to the belts, spark plugs, spark plug wires, points, and timing. A new carburetor has been installed. They will include a replacement carburetor from JBugs with the purchase of the vehicle. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a floor-shifted four-speed Synchromesh manual transmission.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Handling comes from a four-wheel independent suspension. Stopping power is provided by a dual-circuit hydraulic brake system. There is some surface rust present on the underbody.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

This Beetle previously appeared on AutoHunter in January 2024. An uninstalled new carburetor from JBugs, a car cover, an owner’s manual, spare rubber seals, uninstalled chrome exhaust tips, and other parts will accompany the vehicle.
