OVERVIEW
This 1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD sport utility vehicle was initially delivered to Bobby Rahal Toyota in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania and has remained in the seller’s family since new. It is powered by a 5VZ-FE 3.4-liter V6 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. A mechanical and cosmetic restoration completed in 2023 included a new paint job as well as the installation of a Curt hitch receiver, aftermarket wheels, a Pioneer Bluetooth stereo, Bilstein suspension components, and a two-inch lift. Finished in Laser Blue Metallic over an Oak cloth interior, this third-generation 4Runner is now offered with an original invoice, service records, a CARFAX report, and a clear title in the seller’s name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
The exterior was resprayed in GM's Laser Blue Metallic (paint code 21) during the restoration process in June 2019. Features include red accent striping and decals, newer bumpers, a newer windshield, a power tilt/slide moonroof with a wind deflector, running boards, window visors, a roof rack, and a newer Curt hitch receiver. The rubber door moldings were replaced during the repaint; the original power antenna was replaced with a stub antenna. The seller notes that the left front fender was replaced after someone backed into the front bumper, hail dents in the roof were pulled out, and there is a rust hole on a corner of the rear bumper.
EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES
Aluminum 16-inch wheels with polished outer lips are wrapped in 265/70 Yokohama Geolandar A/T front and 265/70 Thunderer Ranger rear tires that were installed in 2022.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The interior is fitted with Oak cloth bucket seats up front, a matching split-folding bench in the rear, and color-coordinated materials for the door panels, dash, center console, carpeting, and floor mats. Features include tinted power side and tailgate windows, power door locks, power steering, cruise control, air conditioning, a Pioneer AM/FM/CD/Bluetooth radio, map lights, and a cargo area cover. According to the seller, the air conditioning system has been replaced.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
Instrumentation includes a 110-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the coolant temperature and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 190,339 miles, a figure which lines up with the most recent mileage of 190,298 recorded on the CARFAX report in October 2023.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
The 5VZ-FE 3.4-liter V6 was rated at 183 horsepower and 217 lb-ft of torque when new. Within the last 1,000 miles, service included the replacement of the oil and oil filter, timing belt, water pump, coolant, belts and hoses, temperature sensors, spark plugs, transmission fluid, and transmission filter screen. Power is transferred to all four wheels via a console-shifted four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case.
UNDERCARRIAGE
The undercarriage has a two-inch body lift and was epoxy-coated during the restoration. The front and rear suspension bushings, ball joints, rack-and-pinion steering, fuel lines, struts, and coil springs have been replaced. The front suspension has been updated with 1999 4Runner struts, the rear springs are stiffer than stock, and the rear shocks have been replaced with Bilstein units. In addition, the front disc and rear drum brakes have been overhauled.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
The CARFAX report begins in 1998 and shows ownership in Pennsylvania since new. Damage was reported in 2007 and in 2017. An inspection was performed in October 2023. The vehicle will come with service records and an original sales invoice.

@MCost – Can you please comment on: 1) Rust repair done to body panels, floor boards or frame. 2) any fluid leaks Thank you. ...
The floor boards are all original and no rust was observed. The drivers side rocker panel had about a 2" rusted area that was repaired prior to the new paint. Some surface rust was repaired behind the license plate. The original paint on the entire body was removed down to bare metal and professionally repainted. The frame had a complete restoration completed by a specialty shop. Rusted areas were removed and new steel installed prior to applying the epoxy finish. There are no fluid leaks.
