Vehicle Story

This 1971 Jaguar XKE OTS Series II Roadster is 1 of 1,628 XKE OTS models produced for the year and was purchased by the seller in 1972 with 1k miles. Power is supplied by its original matching-numbers 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated DOHC six-cylinder with replacement triple SU carburetors. The car has been stored in a climate-controlled garage to protect the Primrose finish and black leather interior.  This E-Type shows approximately 72k miles is offered with a photo book documenting the engine rebuild and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

A professional respray in the factory Primrose was applied in 1990, and it is complemented by a black retractable with plastic rear window.  The Series II features iconic coverless headlights, larger front indicators, wrap-around front, rear chrome bumpers, and taillights integrated below the rear bumper. Triple windshield wipers are fitted up front and  a chrome luggage rack and quad exhaust tips at the rear.

Factory 15” wire wheels are wrapped in tires of unknown age. Remaining tread life is noted as good by the seller.

The interior is trimmed in its original black leather with matching door panels and carpet.  The steering wheel and shift knob are  wood, and a factory Phillips radio is present in the dash. Photos show cosmetic damage to the passenger-side door bar.

Instrumentation is framed by a 3-spoke steering wheel with E-Type center insignia and includes a 160-mph speedometer and 6k tachometer, gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage, and an analog clock.  The 5-digit mechanical odometer indicates 72,681 actual miles, all but 1k of which have been added by the seller.

Power is provided by the original 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated inline 6-cylinder, which was rebuilt with three SU carburetors, increasing engine performance from 246-hp when new to a current estimate of 265-hp. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission with a console-mounted shift lever.

All-wheel independent suspension, disc brakes, and an integrated frame can be seen on the underside. Additional photos showing the condition of the underside are provided in the gallery.

The sale includes the original factory service manual, a photo book documenting the engine rebuild, and two ignition keys. A video is available for viewing below.

@JordanM – Hello Seattle6, Yes you are correct. It looks like there was a slight error on the write up that AutoHunter did for us and they have already fixed it. I appreciate you pointing out the error. Yes, we replaced the dual Strombergs with the Triple SU's when we did the engine rebuild in 1990, we did this to match the British market version which had slightly higher HP and torque (approximately 265 hp to 246 hp, and 283 ft-lbs to 263 ft-lbs between the US and British market versions.) Thank you! JordanM ...

Do you have the original Strombergs. That might help. Hal

@seattle6 – those carbs are SU's not Strombergs ...

You were right, they are SU carburetors. My bad.
