OVERVIEW
This two-owner 1974 1/2 MG MGB has been with the seller for 41 years and is powered by a rebuilt 1.8-liter I4 backed by a rebuilt four-speed manual transmission. Features include a luggage rack, newer tires, a wood-rimmed steering wheel, and a Sony AM/FM/cassette stereo. Finished in red and equipped with a newer black convertible top over a black vinyl interior, this garage-kept MGB comes with a car cover, receipts, vehicle documentation, owner’s and shop manuals, a box of additional parts, and Tennessee registration in the seller's name.
EXTERIOR – FEATURES
This is one of 5,273 1974 1/2 MGB roadsters exported to North America, according to the North American MGB Register. In 1995, the reportedly rust-free exterior was refinished in a Ferrari shade of red. Features include black rubber bumpers, a fender-mounted antenna, full-length side trim, a matte black driver-side mirror housing, white side accent stripes, a newer black vinyl folding convertible top, and a chrome luggage rack. There are imperfections in the rear bumper that can be seen in the gallery to the right.
EXTERIOR - WHEELS AND TIRES
A set of 14-inch black and silver Rostyle wheels with bright center caps and trim rings is wrapped in newer 185/70 Hankook Kinergy ST radial tires that have accrued only 253 miles.
INTERIOR – FEATURES
The bucket seats, trim, and door panels are upholstered in black vinyl. Features include manual steering and windows, a center console with a manual transmission shifter, a Sony AM/FM/cassette stereo, and a three-spoke steering wheel with a wood rim.
INTERIOR – GAUGES
A 120-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure are located ahead of the driver. With 118,000 miles added during current ownership, the rolled-over odometer effectively reads 150,420 miles, which the seller reports to be accurate.
ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION
Power is provided by a 1.8-liter I4 equipped with an APT (Advanced Performance Technology) performance camshaft and backed by a four-speed manual transmission. The seller notes that 800 miles have been added to the car since the engine and transmission were rebuilt in 2016. In addition, the dual Triumph Spitfire 1500 carburetors have been rebuilt and equipped with MGB float bowls and different throttle shafts. In September 2021, the intake gasket and the intake manifold and carburetor spacers were replaced, the timing and the vacuum advance were adjusted, and the carburetors were tuned.
UNDERCARRIAGE
This MG was factory-equipped with an independent front suspension and a solid rear drive axle. Braking is provided by manual front discs and rear drums.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
This MG previously appeared on AutoHunter (lot number 34141016) in March 2023. It is now being relisted at a lower reserve price than before. The seller will include a car cover, receipts, vehicle documentation, owner’s and shop manuals, repaint photos, and a box of additional parts as part of the sale.

IMPORTANT NEW COMMENT, PLEASE NOTE!! Since I have not yet moved into my new home, my car is stored in a storage container in a storage facility 25 miles away from my apartment. Yesterday, I went to start the car to note the idle oil pressure for a bidder. The car would not fire up which surprised me as I had run the engine just two days earlier. It just cranked and cranked. I cannot do any repairs because all my tools are also stored in various storage containers and since I'm new to the area, I do not know of any mechanics to get it running in two days before the auction closes. I am very sorry that this happened and I apologize to all you bidders but I wanted to be up front with all of you. Right now, I'm guessing that the engine kill switch failed but I don't know that for sure without having some of my tools. To the bidder that asked about the idle oil pressure, this is why I did not give you the number that I promised you.
@DonaldKeith – Any rust on the doglegs and rocker panels?...Is hood damaged right behind the emblem?....Thank you ...
No rust present. What you see in the photos is not damage. The hood has a decorative boss put into the hood behind the emblem.
BID: $5,200

@oldguyatlakeland – Few questions. Does it have a tonneau cover? Are there any tears in the top? How much rust is there on the floors and trunk floor? Finally, what is idle oil pressure after the rebuild? Thanks! ...
Good morning. Good questions. No tonneau cover. Top is brand new, installed less than a year ago. No rust on the floors and I don't remember any rust in the trunk since the car was garaged for all 41 years that I've owned it. However, we are currently living in an apartment so I have the car stored off site about 25 miles away in a secure container. I'm going to the car this morning to double check rust in the trunk and the idle oil pressure because I don't want to guess my answers to you. I will reply to you this afternoon.

@blindmanbob – look at my email, [email protected] and ill send you a picture of it.. ...
I don't understand how you treat mg's. My carbs have performed well and I've never had to put more care into them than normal. Do you drive your car hard because I don't and the car has performed very well for me for the 41 years I've owned it.
@blindmanbob – From the back, us mgb owners call that muffler , a hanging trash can on the rear of car, not a good look from behind..i think.. ...
Hi again. Still talking about mufflers? Geez. You and I sure travel in different groups. Folks that I dealt with including clubs never called it that. Anyway, I'm going to have some fun and go work on my '53 Ford. Have a nice day.
@Kpgvp0 – Why does the car have California plates? ...
Hi, Pictures were taken toward end of 2023 when I was living in California. Car is now in eastern Tennessee.
Why does the car have California plates?

@blindmanbob – My exhaust system was "custom Made" costs under 300.00 Done... Moss motors parts are good, but their exhaust systems are in too many pieces, room for leaks,..my tail pipe mounted tight up in the groove in the back of the body, that's what that groove is for. And the webber two barrel carb is easy install, no adjusting, bolts on in less that a hour or so, and wu-la! the car idles perfect, those carbs on yours, will give you or the person that buys it, a lifetime of trouble and having to oil, and adjust them over and over again. Maybe you should include the webber conversion kit with the car, it will sell for much more. Just tap the key and it idles perfect. comes with air cleaner and all parts. just sayin..good luck!! ...

@lovemgb – Well, hello again. As I've already stated, the positioning of the exhaust system has not been an operational problem. I put in the new exhaust system about 10 years ago and no hitting the roadway while driving, including when driving through intersections. I have never driven the car hard because I out to enjoy the ride. I'm in no hurry to go from Point A to Point B. That's what my other vehicles are for. ...

@blindmanbob – No, maybe the mech that installed the exhaust system wasn't privy to do that! most dont know how....but i do! ...

Response to the person who deleted a comment about the car not really having Triumph 1500 carbs: It's very encouraging to find out there are people out there that know more than my mechanic who bought the carbs, the company that sold the carbs and, during engine rebuild, the carb repair company the rebuilt the carbs. I guess the repair documents are also in error. Maybe your facts could be in error??
@blindmanbob – Its probably only worth 5000.00..only if it has webber carbs. ...
Thanks for your comment but a lot of people are sorry they have Weber carbs.
