OVERVIEW

This 1997 Mercury Cougar XR7 coupe has been driven 73,806 miles since new and has spent the majority of its life in California. It is powered by an unmodified Modular 4.6-liter SOHC V8 mated to a 4R70W four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power moonroof, a spoiler, 16-inch wheels, remote keyless entry, and four-wheel power disc brakes. EXTERIOR – FEATURES

The Silver Frost Metallic exterior features a power moonroof, chrome trim, power mirrors with color-keyed caps, and a rear spoiler. The seller notes a quarter-sized ding on the hood as well as blemishes on the chrome trim, both of which can be seen in the gallery to the right.

EXTERIOR – WHEELS AND TIRES

The 16-inch seven-spoke aluminum wheels are wrapped in a set of older 225/60 Hankook Optimo H724 tires.

INTERIOR – FEATURES

The cabin is fitted with Medium Graphite leather bucket seats up front, a bench in the rear with a fold-down center armrest, and corresponding materials for the door panels, dash, center console, carpeting, and floor mats. Features include remote keyless entry, power windows, power locks, a power-adjustable driver's seat, power steering, a tilt steering wheel, cruise control, air conditioning, an AM/FM/cassette radio, and footwell courtesy lights.

INTERIOR – GAUGES

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for the fuel level and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 73,806 miles, which lines up with the most recent reading of 72,225 miles recorded on the CARFAX report in 2022.

ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION

The Modular 4.6-liter SOHC V8 was rated at 205 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque when new. A tune-up was performed in October 2023. Historic maintenance history is outlined in the CARFAX report and includes the replacement of the intake manifold gaskets, air conditioning compressor and refrigerant, serpentine belt, serpentine tensioner, idler pulley, radiator, valve cover gaskets, timing cover, oil pan gasket, water pump, and thermostat within the last five years. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4R70W four-speed automatic transmission.

UNDERCARRIAGE

Handling is assisted by a four-wheel independent suspension. Stopping power comes from four-wheel power disc brakes.
