1972 Buick Skylark

According to its trim tag, this 1972 Buick Skylark left the factory wearing Cortez Gold, and the seller describes the current finish as a professional respray. GSX stripes have been added to the hood, and continue down the sides before meeting on the trunk lid. Assembled in Fremont, California, the seller says the car originated in Las Vegas, and that all of the sheet metal remains original. The paint is protected by a ceramic coating, and GSX badges are affixed in their factory locations on the grille and rear quarters. The hood is a functional Ram Air design and features an externally-mounted tachometer, while the trunk lid wears a GSX spoiler. According to the seller, the front bumper is original, while the rear was re-plated, and items such as window seals and weatherstripping have been replaced.

Wheels are a 15" set of Buick's factory-offered Rallye design, and come wrapped in 245-section BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.

The black interior follows the car's original specification which included black upholstery. Front bench seats are divided by a restored center console which wears wood trim that is continued on the door panels and below the instrument panel. The seller says the carpeting has been replaced, the air conditioning system has been rebuilt and blows cold air, and that all interior lights work. The steering column is the tilting design, and the various parts have been replaced. Buick-branded carpeted floor mats line the footwells, the seatbelts are original, and the passenger side of the instrument panel has a Buick GSX badge above the locking glovebox. An updated stereo has been retrofitted with kick panel speakers in the front and six-by-nine-inch speakers in the rear.

Instrumentation comes in the form of a 120-mph speedometer and clock, along with a combination gauge for the fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature which contains additional warning lights. A pod containing three aftermarket gauges for voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature is mounted beneath the instrument panel below the climate controls and stereo head unit. The external hood-mounted tachometer goes up to 8,000 rpm, but redline comes at 5,000. The interior of the trunk is color-matched to the body and contains a spare tire, jack and toolkit, and a replaced jacking instruction decal.

Power comes courtesy of a 1970 model year Buick 455ci big-block V8 which was rebuilt by Opel Engineering. The engine was built to Buick Stage 1 specifications and has been bored and stroked with upgraded components such as a camshaft, stainless steel valves, a double-row timing chain, and a Pertronix ignition system. The seller notes the use of various new and NOS parts such as the clutch fan, coolant overflow bottle, radiator insulators, dipstick, and other hardware. The brake master cylinder has been cadmium plated and the seller says the air conditioning system has been rebuilt. The engine is fueled by a Stage 1 carburetor setup and the transmission is a rebuilt Turbo-Hydramatic 400.

An exhaust system from Pypes is fitted, and the seller says all sheet metal remains original, with no floor patches. Brakes have been upgraded to discs and the optional F41 suspension package is present.
