Vehicle Story

This 1970 Pontiac GTO convertible has been with the seller for 28 years and was the recipient of a two-year restoration completed in 1995. Power is providing by a  rebuilt matching-numbers 400ci V8 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. In addition to the engine overhaul, the refurbishment included new red upholstery and installation of a newer radio. This GTO is finished in Cardinal Red with newer Goodyear Eagle GT tires and is offered with a clear Illinois title in the seller’s name.

Bodywork in the form of replacement rear quarters was carried out in the mid-1990s, prior to application of the Cardinal Red respray. Features include a contrasting black power convertible top, a rear spoiler, GTO decals, quad exhaust tips, and stainless steel brightwork that was also refinished during the restoration.

Factory 14” wheels 5-spoke wheels are wrapped in Goodyear Eagle GT raised-white letter tires. Handling is managed by power steering and power-assisted front disc brakes.

Interior trim is red throughout, including the bucket seats, carpet, and dash. Faux wood grain frames the instrument cluster and the original radio has been replaced with an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette wired to a pair of 6x9 JBL speakers.

Instrumentation is framed by a 3-spoke steering wheel and consists of a 140-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for fuel level, voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The 5-digit mechanical odometer shows approximately 24k miles, though the seller reports that the actual mileage is 124k.  True mileage is unknown.

The rebuilt matching-numbers 400ci V8 is equipped with a 4-barrel carburetor and is mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission. The transmission was serviced in 2018 per the seller.

Addition photos of the undercarriage are provided in the gallery.

The sale includes the car’s original build sheet and documentation from the restoration.

@MarkR – I bought the vehicle in Sept of 1994 with actual miles of 93,400 and now the original engine has slightly over 124k miles. ...

So it has not been overhauled- Correct?
