Vehicle Story

This 1931 Ford Model A roadster was meticulously restored and features a rumble seat, rear-mounted spare tire, replacement canvas top, and refinished brightwork. The subject of a Washington Post article documenting its long-term Navy Admiral owner using it to commute to the Pentagon, the seller states that it is mechanically sound, noting fluid services. Power is delivered by a 201ci flathead inline-four mated to a non-synchromesh 3-speed manual transmission. Finished in two-tone olive green and black over a reupholstered interior, this Model A roadster is offered with a clear Virginia title in the seller’s name.

This Model A was professionally repainted in two-tone olive green and black, and sports a replacement tan cloth top with a rear window. The roadster is reported to be largely original aside from the paint, which is contrasted by the brightwork. A  rumble seat is present at the rear, along with a full-size spare tire wrapped in a Ford-branded canvas cover.

Running gear consists of factory 19" cross-spoke wheels.

The interior is fitted with reupholstered bench seats for both the main cabin and the rumble seat, and the door panels are wrapped in the same material. Matching carpeting has been installed on the floor, and the roadster has a four-spoke black steering wheel with a column-mounted turn signal stalk. Fold-out hinged side windows are featured at the leading edge of each door opening.

Instrumentation is installed on a polished bezel at the center of the dash and includes a ribbon-style speedometer, fuel gauge, and ammeter. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 201 miles, but true chassis mileage is unknown.

The 201ci inline-four wasrated at 40 horsepower when new, and the photo gallery shows detailed images of the engine bay condition as well as the presence of a factory-installed identification tag. The seller indicates that the roadster is up to date on maintenance, having received annual fluid changes. Power is sent to the rear wheels by a non-synchromesh 3-speed manual.

The seller notes that this 1931 Ford Model A roadster was featured in a Washington Post piece about it being riven to the Pentagon by its long-term Navy Admiral owner. The car is currently plated with period-correct 1931 Virginia tags. Videos are available for viewing below.
