That first sentenced got chopped off . The 1800cc engine was installed in the 1970's or early 80's as best as I can determine .
The 1800 cc MGB engine was installed The original 1500cc engine that produced 68 horsepower was replaced with an 1800cc MGB engine that produces 95 horsepower . That engine is mated to an English Ford 5 speed transmission . This conversion required no mounting changes but did consist of a Moss Motors conversion kit . The 1800cc apparently came from a 1962 through 1965 MGB . This engine and transmission conversion was quite common in the early days of MGA rally cars , the increased horsepower and final overdrive gear of the 5 speed allowed for better highway speeds . As for the wire wheels , they are not knock-offs but regular bolt on wire wheels that do not require special tools . Hope this is helpful .
This car was supplied with a 1540 cc engine. Why is it now listed as 1800? Is this a MGB engine replacement? Does the heated work? Any tools for the wheels, replacing?
Happy New Year !! I was told to add an introduction comment about this MGA but there is not enough room for a novel ! I traced the ownership back to 1961 and to whom I believe bought it new , a Naval Commander stationed in San Diego . It looks to have been purchased in 1979 by the second owner , there are numerous documents of that time frame , including a "restoration" by that owner . The next owner seems to appear around 1996 , this is the family that I acquired it from . There are records and flyers of the road rallies this car participated in including a 1,000 mile trek , it is registered with the National MG registry . There are receipts for over $25,000.00 dollars for the body and paint restoration that was completed in 2013 . The 1800cc MG engine and English Ford 5 speed transmission were apparently installed by the second owner . It runs and drives awesome , 70 m.p.h. cruising speed ! The brakes were just completely redone in 2023, the carbs were just retuned in 2024 and new exhaust was installed . This MG is not flawless but near perfect , it is in excellent condition . It does have the tonneau cover , the soft top is in good shape and it comes with the stack of receipts and records , AKA the "PROMINENCE" . Please feel free to ask questions , I should be able to respond in a timely manner , I live in Montana which is in the MST zone . Thank you for your interest and I wish you good luck in bidding !!
