@MRMR – Seller-You are so correct, only the Impala had the grey/silver surrounds--my mistake, thanks for the clarification. And, for all these years, I did not know that the dashboard/steering column tach could be removed, thank you for that clarification as well. ...

No problem, believe it or not a tach was also an option in all v8 cars in 63 , this car may not have gotten one when ordered new ,they also list a 3spd ratio that it would have had with 409 Lots of good information here showing the different options folks could or could not order https://over-drive-magazine.com/2022/07/28/1963-chevrolet-full-size-cars/

@Etaylor – Tach in the car was an aftermarket Stewart Warner in 1971, before that it may have had a factory tach, they were not built in, they were attached with two screws underside the dash and matched the curve of the dash, they can be obtained, car absolutely speaks for itself (with a voice of its own) car has its changes, I don’t present it as all original,- but its story ,body and motor miles, and 409 history is all true -and every indicator says it’s never been repainted or repaired, trunk paint speckle is consistent corner to corner of the trunk as well -nothing is undercoated because nothing to hide here - I hear the wheels should be the color of the car but are black.. stuff happened I believe only impala had grey tail surrounds - many “details” often get confused between the Belair and impala ...

@MRMR – Ok, I’ll join this fun conversation. First, I recall that all ‘63 Bel-Airs had the rear end trunk “insert design” around the tail lights painted silver regardless of the color of the car. Second, true 409 cars had a built in tach in the steering column—anybody else have this recollection. Regardless, this is a very cool car with the post-design—all business! ...

@AlanSmith – Still not sure if it is an original 409 car. Who built the motor? ...

Lieferts automotive Larry himself built this motor , the original motor’s mishap was sadly not savable ,but Larry (now retired) did say he remembered it being matching the car and recalled the request not to stamp the new block with the vin.. not many 409’s went through his machine shop so it was memorable for him when I spoke to him a few years ago.. that’s the best.. i was there that I have ..aside from the widow who can attest where the car has been it’s entire time since 71 ..car really was born a 409.. and it is a 409 now It’s biggest indicator not very disputed points of being born a 409 is the fuel line keepers are factory riveted to the frame and hold 3/8 line and a return line below, any other configuration of motor wouldnt have these double clips or be 3/8 in size.. they would be single and hold 5/16 if it was ever a smallblock. Thanks for asking
