This 1955 Chevrolet 3100 "Stepside" underwent a nut-and-bolt, body-off restoration, and modification in 2012 and 2013, and is powered by a professionally installed replacement 350ci V8 mated to a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. The original build, which included custom wiring, relocation of the fuel tank and fuel filler, and custom door handles, was performed prior to the seller's purchase in 2014. Subsequent work included the replacement engine and transmission and installation of a custom exhaust and Vintage Air by Hot Rods & Custom Stuff out of Escondido, California. Finished in Sandstone Beige Metallic over a black interior, this 3100 is now offered with an appraisal, build records, a new Dakota Digital instrument cluster, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The body is finished in Sandstone Beige Metallic as part of a body-off restoration completed in 2013. Custom bodywork included modification of the outer door handles, installation of vertical LED taillamps at either side of the shaved tailgate, and relocation of the fuel filler behind the rear driver-side marker lamp. The front bumper and grille were refinished in black under current ownership, and the hood was repainted to address a chip in March 2021 by HRCS to the tune of $1,700.
The truck was measured for and fitted with staggered-width Schott Mod 5 EXL wheels at Schott Performance Wheels in Los Alamitos, California. The 18" fronts wear 225/40 Yokohama tires and the 19" rear wheels are wrapped in 245/45 rubber. A Chevrolet Camaro front clip is fitted, and handling is managed by power steering and 4-wheel discs.
The interior is fitted with tan cloth buckets with matching door panels and headliner, body-color dash with black pad, and black carpet. Amenities include a Vintage air conditioning and heating system, a tilt steering column, and an aftermarket stereo with an in-dash CD.
Instrumentation is framed by a Forever Sharp steering wheel and consists of a non-functional 100-mph speedometer, fuel gauge, and temperature gauge, as well as a 5-digit mechanical odometer showing approximately 10k miles, which reflects mileage since the restoration was completed. The seller notes that a new uninstalled Dakota Digital cluster will go with the car.
The ZZ4 350ci V8 is a 3.9k-mile crate motor rated at 400 horsepower, and it was installed in 2014 by Hod Rods & Custom Stuff. It incorporates LS-style beehive valve springs to enhance high-RPM performance and has been upgraded with a 770-CFM Holley Street Avenger carburetor, a GM HEI distributor, an aluminum radiator with a CCI-1740 2700-CFM electric fan, an Optima red-top battery, Hedman HTC polished silver ceramic-metallic headers, and a Vintage Air Front Runner pulley system. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 4-speed 700R4 automatic transmission and a Chevrolet Camaro 10-bolt rear end.
A dual 2” stainless-steel exhaust system with Magnaflow mufflers is fitted using QTP electronic exhaust cutouts. Additional photos of the undercarriage are provided in the gallery.
The sale includes an appraisal document from Hot Rods & Custom Stuff, build records, and a new Dakota Digital VHX-55C-PU-K-W GPS-ready gauge cluster that is still in the box. Videos are available for viewing below.
