Vehicle Story

This 1960 Ford Thunderbird is a final-year second-generation hardtop coupe that is said to have been restored in the early 1990s. Recent work includes new front seat covers and foam along with a new gas tank, while the transmission and brake booster have been rebuilt per the seller, who has owned the car for nearly eight years. Finished in Corinthian White over a two-tone black and white Morocco Grain vinyl interior, power comes from a 352ci Interceptor Special V8 fed by a Holley 4bbl carburetor mated to a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic, and this Ford Thunderbird is offered on a clear Mississippi title in the seller's name.

1960 was the final year of the second-generation Ford Thunderbird and brought with it changes to trim and lighting. This example is finished in Corinthian, which was applied over the original Turquoise as part of an early 1990s restoration. Appearing to have avoided major modification during its life, wheel spats remain in place, windows are free of tint, and Thunderbird badging and emblems are retained on various panels. The hood scoop is original and the design element was present on all three years of second-generation Thunderbird production.

Factory wheels have been retained with Coker whitewall tires mounted on them. A photo does show some bubbling in the paint above the passenger-side fender skirt.

The interior contains two-tone black and white Morocco Grain vinyl on the seats and door panels. The front seat covers and cushions are reported to have been replaced while the rear is described as like new. The steering wheel is the original three-spoke design and the factory radio remains installed in the center stack above the climate controls.

The gauge cluster houses a 140-mph speedometer, a clock, and a combined dial for fuel and coolant temperature.

The engine is Ford's FE 352ci V8, which was dubbed the Interceptor Special when equipped with a 4bbl Holley carburetor as in this case. When new, it developed 300 horsepower at 4,600 rpm with 380 pound-feet of torque peaking at 2,800. That motivation is translated to the rear axle through a Ford Cruise-O-Matic three-speed automatic. The seller lists a rebuilt transmission and brake booster, a new fuel tank with an electric pump, and electronic ignition.

@SpeedingBULLITT – Hi Debbie..Just curious as to whether this automobile has any fluid leaks at all, as I see the transmission has been rebuilt ... is the mileage correct as to a Box A original, is there any corrosion on the undercarriage? Has this TBird lived in Mississippi all its life? Is is quite roadworthy, do you think it would make a trip to Arizona well? I’m a TBird freak from old school days, LOVE the 1st gen..2nd as well..quite fond of the 3rd and 4th (pended one!!) TOO! I’m just looking for a good running old Thunderbird with minimal body needed, no rust to have to deal with underneath!! Thanks for your time..also, you mentioned the wipers do not work..are they vacuum? ...

@raycura – Hi, do all gauges: clock, radio, wipers, etc. work? Besides paint bubbling does the car have any other flaws that need to be addressed? What kind of gas does the car require? Thank you, Ray ...
