This 2004 Audi S4 is a 6-speed manual-equipped example from the second year of B6 production. The seller describes this S4 as a lifetime Southern California car with 71,000 miles and lists equipment that includes a rare sunroof delete. Audi Quattro all-wheel-drive was standard, and modifications appear to be minimal. This Audi is finished in Brilliant Black over a standard Ebony leather Recaro interior. More than $4,000 in recent maintenance is also detailed, and this S4 is offered on a branded title thanks to a lemon law buyback that occurred when the car had just 800 miles.
Finished in Brilliant Black, this B6-generation S4 appears unmodified from stock including 18" Avus wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires mounted on them including a matching full-size spare. Undercarriage photos reveal that the suspension has been left unchanged, while the dual exhaust system which is framed by a diffusor on the rear bumper is the factory design. Windows are free of tint while light lenses are free of major blemishes.
The front bumper shows a scrape just ahead of the passenger side wheel.
Recaro seats were standard on the B6 S4 and come wrapped in Silk Nappa Ebony leather in this example, with wear concentrated on the driver's side entry bolsters. Wood trim is found on the door panels, center console, and also stretches across the instrument panel, where it is affixed with a Quattro badge. Audi's three-spoke sport steering wheel goes without control buttons in the S4 and is backed by a gauge cluster containing an 8,000-rpm tachometer with a 7,000 rpm redline, and a 160-mph speedometer which are divided by a color multi-function LCD display. Smaller dials for coolant temperature and fuel flank them. The digital odometer displays just under 70,000 miles.
The factory Audi Symphony CD deck also remains in place above the climate controls and beneath one of the retractable cupholders.
The 4.2-liter Audi BHF V8 in the S4 uses 5-valve heads for a total of 40 and has its variable simplex timing chain mechanism mounted on the back, up against the firewall. Output when new was rated at 340 horsepower at 7,200 rpm with 310 pound-feet of torque peaking at 3,000. The exhaust system uses multi-stage catalytic converters for a total of four. Motivation is shuffled to all four wheels through a 6-speed manual Getrag transmission and Audi's signature Torsen-based Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The seller lists $4,000 in recent maintenance which included replacement of the front control arms, the clutch, and CV axles.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The CARFAX report for this 2004 Audi S4 indicates that the title is branded thanks to a lemon law buyback which occurred when the car was just a few months old with 819 miles. The engine and transmission are reported to have been replaced by Audi of San Diego in 2004 prior to the car being resold as a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicle to its most recent owner who kept it from 2005 until recently. The selling dealer claims to have verified these assertions.
