This 1966 Volkswagen Beetle was the subject of a body-off restoration during which time it was modified to run a 1,600cc flat-four paired with a later transmission and a 12-volt electrical system among numerous other upgrades and modifications. Enthusiast owned according to the selling dealer with an odometer reading of just under 91,000 original miles, condition presents nicely throughout including the reupholstered interior, refinished bumpers, mag wheels, and undercarriage. This 1966 Volkswagen Beetle is said to start, run and drive well, with all options and features reported as being in working condition.
Refinished black exterior paint is punctuated by re-chromed bumpers with guards and other brightwork which exhibits a reflective quality. The engine cover wears a 1300 badge and mag wheels feature blue VW center caps and wear generic vintage-style radial tires. Rear windows are tinted and dual exhaust tips are visible beneath the rear bumper.
The seller says the body was removed from the underpinnings and running gear as part of the restoration process.
The cabin is a tidy space with black and light cream-colored upholstery on the seats with the color scheme continued on the door panels. The exterior paint is continued on the instrument panel which houses a Panasonic CD player head unit connected to Pioneer speakers. The steering wheel is the correct design for the year while surfaces like carpeting and upholstery appear close to new. The VDO speedometer maxes out at 90 mph and is flanked by additional VDO gauges for fuel, oil temperature and pressure, and voltage. Occupants are held in place by three-point seatbelts.
The trunk holds a full-size matching spare tire with the factory jack on the passenger side and fluid reservoirs on the driver's side.
The engine is a 1,600cc air-cooled flat-four from a later Volkswagen which is mated to a manual transmission from a 1967 model year Beetle. Other upgrades include four-wheel disc brakes and a 12-volt charging system. The engine bay is an organized space with a period-correct Bosch ignition coil prominently in view along with a PerTronix Flame-Thrower distributor cap. Exhaust headers are ceramic-coated and feed a muffler with dual chrome tips.
Photos of the underside show minimal corrosion and various components which were replaced as part of the restoration.
Extensive paperwork documentating restoration efforts, other maintenance, and repairs is said to be included.

@us2 – In photos 6 and 7 with the car running there is blue smoke from the exhaust. Does the seller have any compression tests to help a buyer evaluate the condition of the individual cylinder condition ? ...
Hello! Thank you for your time and interest! Currently, we do not have that documentation from the seller. We can make the car available for an inspection if requested, and we have an photo album that documents the restoration. The car was primarily driven on and off trailers to attend car shows.
