This 1968 AMC AMX is one of 1,144 produced with a 290ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual and has been with the seller for three years. Upgrades and modifications include a Air Conditioning by Vintage Air, a PerTronix electronic ignition, a quick-ratio power steering box, and an Elebrock intake manifold and carburetor, among more. The exterior is Matador Red with white racing stripes, factory wheels wear BF Goodrich tires, and this AMC AMX is offered on a clear California title in the seller's name.
Finished in Matador Red with contrasting white racing stripes, this AMX sits on factory wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires and wears chrome bumpers with a reflective finish. Dual exhaust tips exit below the rear bumper and AMX badges are fitted within the grille and on the rear pillars.
Windows are free of tint. Four-wheel drums are tasked with braking and power steering is aided but a quick-ratio box.
The interior contains black vinyl upholstery, black carpeting, and a matching dash. The seats have been recovered with new foam and correct AMX-style vinyl per the seller. The factory steering wheel is present but its rim is wrapped in a corded leather cover. The original radio remains mounted below the climate control system and forward of the floor-mounted shifter. Windows are operated by crank.
Gauges include an 8,000-rpm tachometer, 120-mph speedometer, and a combination fuel level and coolant temperature dial. The trunk houses a space-saver spare.
This AMC AMX is one of 525 produced for the 1968 model year (1,144 in total) with a 290ci V8 paired and a 4-speed manual transmission. The Typhoon 290 in this example is fueled by an Edelbrock carburetor atop a matching intake manifold and features chrome valve covers, a performance camshaft, a PerTronix ignition, and Hooker long-tube headers. A quick-ratio power steering box is also installed, along with an Optima battery.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.

floatplane thanks for offering up this great example of AMX , I owned one exactly except the interior on mine was red. I have to bail as the cost for me in Canada is over 40000 in direct costs let alone transpo and taxes to get it here in BC. This is a fabulous car sure hope whoever gets it treats it well and drives it. Thanks, bassbone

I saw a note from my mechanic that mentioned he replaced the Master Cylinder, I don't recall buying one, but maybe he bought it and installed it. The brakes do work very well so I'm not surprised its new.

Even during Monterey week where there are multiple gullwings at every hotel, you just don't see an AMX... Might be time to start talking to folks at Pebble?

I would completely agree. This is an excellent example of a very rare 60s pony car that his ready to drive literally anywhere. A Mustang this rare would cost 3 times as much money and still be more common at any car show.
Hi everyone, getting down to the last hour! Thank you for all the bids, No Reserve so this one is going to go. Going to miss this one....
Bidding is coming to an end soon. Someone is going to get a very nice limited example of the first year of the AMX for a very reasonable price.
