This 1989 Laforza 4WD luxury sport utility vehicle was number 247 of only 250 units delivered to the United States market for the 1989 model year, offering film industry provenance, a professionally restored exterior, level 1 armor protection, and vetted detailed historical documentation. This Laforza is powered by Ford-sourced 302ci V8 mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission with a 2-speed transfer case and it has undergone a six-month preservation detail in preparation for its sale. Finished in silver metallic over a saddle tan leather interior, this Laforza is now offered with an owner’s manual, a factory-issued keychain, service records, and a CARFAX report with a clear California title in the seller’s name.
This Italian-built Laforza was developed as a luxury SUV under the Rayton-Fissore Magnum name by automotive designer Tom Tjaarda. This example’s largely-original, unmodified configuration has been preserved over the course of over 30 years and was most recently enhanced by a professional repaint in its original silver metallic color, accompanied by a concours-level detail from top to bottom. When the Laforza originally launched in 1989, Tjaarda piloted this vehicle and five others off the assembly line in Italy to conclude the production run of only 250 units. This example went on to serve as a press vehicle, becoming featured in both print media as well as making an appearance in the 1990 film “Pretty Woman.” The seller adds that this vehicle is both rust-free and accident-free, having resided in California as part of a long-term collection for many years and offering Level 1 security protection as well as black-out brake lamps. The squared-off proportions of the exterior are accentuated by color-matched bumpers, fog lamps, a bulged hood, and black-finished nerf step-bars along either side.
Factory 15” block-style wheels are gray-finished and wrapped in BF Goodrich Rugged Terrain T/A raised-white-letter tires. The seller indicates that this vehicle was outfitted with military-grade suspension underpinnings.
The interior is trimmed in saddle tan leather bucket seats up front with a bench in the rear, while the door panels, dash, and carpeting are finished in the same color scheme. Amenities include woodgrain trim bezels for the HVAC controls, radio, and other parts of the interior, as well as embroidered floor mats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a modern Sony AM/FM/CD head unit.
Instrumentation includes an 85-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer, surrounded by gauges for voltage, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 89k miles, which the seller asserts is a true reading.
The fuel-injected Ford 302ci 5.0-liter V8 is accompanied by service records and is said to have been sorted mechanically by a specialty repair facility. It was factory-rated at 185 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered to the ground via a 4-speed automatic transmission, with 4WD engagement made available via a push-button on the dash, and an NP229 two-speed transfer case.
Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel, illustrating the level of detail to which this SUV has been both preserved and restored.
The sale includes a keychain, an owner's manual, and documentation on the vehicle's history. The seller states the car has current California registration through 2023 and has passed Smog. Photos are available which illustrate the restoration process.
