This 1931 Chevrolet Series AE Independence 5-window coupe is one of 28,397 produced for the model year and is now available for sale in highly original condition with approximately 40,000 miles on the odometer. The car features many of its original parts including what is claimed to be the original 194ci inline-6 cylinder paired with a manual transmission which is said to run and drive well. Located in Rockville Centre, New York, the car was inherited by the seller 2 years ago and is now offered for sale with a 5-month old oil change and clear New York title in the seller's name.
The original Fischer bodywork is finished in white and was likely refinished under prior ownership. Accents include black fenders and side steps, a louvered hood, wire mesh grille and chrome bumpers to compliment the 5-window cab and curved chrome light bar. Twin taillights can be found on the rear along with a spare tire carrier and stainless hardware.
Standard suspension is equipped including the leaf-sprung solid rear axle while steering and braking systems are mechanically operated. Wire spoke wheels are painted green with chrome Chevrolet branded hub caps over 4-wheel drum brakes.
The interior was refinished under prior ownership with two-toned body-matching white and black upholstery over the door panels and bench seating over black flooring and flat single pane glass windshield. Shifting is accomplished by a floor-mounted shift handle in conjunction with the other floor-mounted controls which were in the process of becoming standard for the era.
Instrumentation includes a standard gauge set for the generation along with knobs for adjusting spark and throttle mounted in a black dash panel. The odometer is reported to show an authentic and original 40,000 miles of use.
The 194ci 50hp stove bolt-6 is said to be original to the car along with the manual transmission and comes complete with a single-barrel downdraft carburetor, exhaust and intake manifold assembly. The engine is reported to run beautifully and was serviced with an oil change about 5 months ago.
Additional photos of the underside and the rest of the car are available for viewing in the gallery.
