Vehicle Story

This 1957 Pontiac Star Chief Custom Catalina two-door hardtop features air conditioning, power brakes, a refurbished suspension, and a reupholstered interior. It is powered by a 347ci V8 which received a replacement radiator and fuel pump, and the drivetrain includes a Hydramatic 4-speed automatic transmission. The seller has owned the vehicle for eight years and indicates that the suspension was overhauled with new shocks and springs within the last three years, and the brakes were replaced four years ago. Finished in two-tone Cordova Red and Kenya Ivory over a two-tone white and red interior, this second-generation Star Chief is now offered with a clear Illinois title in the seller’s name.

This Star Chief has a two-door hardtop body configuration and was professionally repainted in two-tone Cordova Red and Kenya Ivory under prior ownership, with extensive brightwork for the front and rear bumpers, side moldings, window surrounds, and door handles. A new windshield has been installed and dual exhaust outlets are found at the corners of the rear bumper.

Factory 14” red-painted steel wheels with polished hubcaps are wrapped in 205/75 Goodyear Viva 2 whitewall tires. The car came factory-equipped with both power steering and power brakes, and the seller notes that the steering box was refurbished and new brakes were installed four years ago. The suspension has also been sorted, with replacement shocks and springs installed and an alignment performed within the last three years.

The interior is trimmed with reupholstered white vinyl bucket seats and matching door panels, while the lap belts, dash, and carpeting are red. Amenities include air conditioning, an analog clock, an AM radio, chrome accents, and a Star Chief scripted emblem at the passenger side. Per the seller, all locks were removed, repaired as needed, and oiled, the air conditioning is not functional, and the clock is not working.

Instrumentation is housed within a ribbed aluminum bezel and includes a 120-mph speedometer, along with circular pods below for voltage, coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads approximately 96k miles, although true chassis mileage is unknown.

The 347ci OHV V8 is said to have been well-maintained, having received a replacement radiator and replacement fuel pump with cutoff switch recently. Power is directed to the rear wheels via a Hydramatic 4-speed automatic transmission and a column-mounted shift lever. Per the seller, a transmission leak is present.

It’s not attached to the vehicle, so it’s in the truck for storage.

@Aussiepie – Hi Can you tell me what's wrong with the Aircon? Also I am in Australia if I bought and paid for the car could you hang on to it for a few weeks while I arrange shipping? Thanks Pete ...

We have the compressor, but it is in the trunk. If you are the winning bidder and the check clears then I'm sure we can figure something out.
