Vehicle Story

This 1985 Jaguar XJS has covered 43,400 miles since new per the seller and features a modern stereo system, Michelin tires, and upgraded exterior lighting. Power is delivered by a 5.3-liter V12 that has received service in the form of new valve cover gaskets and a fuel pump, a transmission and exhaust system service, and more. The car resided in Colorado through 2016, at which time it was relocated to Maryland when the seller took ownership. Finished in Regent Gray over a Magnolia Red leather interior, this XJS is offered with a clean CARFAX report, its original headlights and fog lights, the factory radio, service manuals, and a clear Maryland title in the seller’s name.

This XJS was professionally resprayed in Regent Gray Metallic and wears a variety of chrome-finished exterior accents including headlight bezels, bumper trim, sideview mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets. The paint has been customized with red pin striping along the side panels, and the seller has provided detailed images showing the condition, fit, and finish. Front-end lighting features fog lamps below the bumper and later-model quad round Bosch headlights, with the original items included.

Factory 15” aluminum five-spoke wheels are wrapped in newer Michelin Defender 215-section tires that are reported to have 90% tread life remaining. A new rear window gasket is also noted as having been installed.

The interior is fitted with re-dyed Magnolia Red leather front bucket seats with matching door panels and carpeting and an OEM replacement headliner. The instrument panel features a gloss light woodgrain appliqué which extends to each door panel. Convenience amenities consist of a digital trip computer, automatic climate control, cruise control, a rear window defroster, and power convenience options. Upgrades include a modern Alpine AM/FM/CD head unit, a Moto Lita wood-rimmed steering wheel, a switch for the power antenna, and deep-pile carpeted floor mats. The radar detector is a factory unit that came with the car as an option. The factory steering wheel, radio, and floor mats are included with the sale, with the latter having been only used for shows according to the seller.

Instrumentation consists of a 160-mph speedometer and a 7,000-rpm tachometer, along with gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer was replaced at just over 3,000 miles, and the seller asserts that actual mileage is 43,400. A mileage discrepancy is reported on the CARFAX report.

The 5.3-liter Jaguar SOHC 24-valve HE V12 was rated at 291 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque when new and has received service in the form of new valve and cam cover gaskets, an oil and filter change, and a replacement fuel pump. The CARFAX report notes that the vehicle was serviced by Jaguar Land Rover of Bethesda, Maryland in February 2021 and received an overall inspection of the charging system, brakes, and other vehicle systems. The air conditioning system has been serviced and has a new compressor running R134a refrigerant according to the seller. Power is transferred to the rear wheels by a 3-speed automatic transmission which has received a new filter and fluid.

The seller reports that the upper control arm bushings and upper ball joints have been replaced, and adds that the exhaust system has been serviced with two new pipes installed. Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.

The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record but notes a mileage discrepancy due to the replaced odometer. The sale includes the car’s original head unit, steering wheel, an air conditioning control module, a radar detector, the original fog lights and headlights, an uninstalled rear sway bar kit, and a set of service manuals.

@caraholic – Only 2-1/2 hours left, so this might be too late to ask. Does the modern stereo include mp3/usb capability? Don't want to bid, but do want to bid. Yes, a bit conflicted. ...

Hello, The stereo is mps compatible and has a USB port. The Stereo system sounds great. Music is very important to me. :)

I own an 89 v12 xjs convertible in the dark grey with mulberry leather and so a very similar color combo and I can share it is stunning and a very regal look for these leaping cats. The jag v12 is a great cruising GT and not a race car and does take some regular maintenance but these are gorgeous cars and I am tempted to bring in the matching coupe to the collection!!
