This 1976 Mercedes-Benz 240D wears blue and yellow California license plates and is described by the seller as an unmodified three-owner example that was returned to roadworthiness after being stored for approximately six years. Motivation comes courtesy of a 2.4-liter turbodiesel inline-four backed by a 3-speed automatic, and items of note include functional air conditioning that blows cold air and tires replaced during the seller's ownership period, along with a brake service. Finished in Medium Red over an Ivory MB-Tex interior, this final-year W115 240D is offered on a clear California title in the seller’s name.
This 240D sedan comes from the final year of the W115 platform and wears exterior features that were added out as part of a refresh for model year 1973, including revised headlight placement, removal of front quarter windows, and the addition of a version of Mercedes-Benz self-cleaning taillights. This example is finished in Medium Red and was reportedly returned to roadworthiness by the seller after approximately six years of storage. US specifications for the period include large, impact-resistant bumpers and additional side marker lighting. A pair of exhaust pipes exit beneath the driver's side of the rear end and badging remains complete.
Factory 14” steel wheels are fitted with Mercedes-branded color-matched hubcaps. The seller reports replacement of the tires and a front brake caliper as part of their refurbishment efforts. Blue and yellow six-digit California license plates which correspond to the car's period are mounted front and rear.
The interior is upholstered in material that is believed to be the car's original Ivory MB-Tex, which is described as showing age as whole while remaining free of major rips, tears, and imperfections per the seller. Door panels are lined in the same material while the black dash and instrument panel offer contrast. Equipment includes air conditioning which is described as operational. Windows are operated by crank and an inoperative aftermarket radio is mounted in the center stack.
Instrumentation includes a 100-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The five-digit mechanical odometer displays 14k miles, but the seller speculates that it has rolled over at least once, and actually represents 114k.
The OM616 64-horsepower 2.4-liter turbodiesel inline-four underwent a mechanical refresh after the car was removed from six years of long-term storage. The fuel and other fluids were drained and replaced, and the engine is described as running well per the seller. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission operated by a console-mounted shift lever.

Looks very nice .... is this a repaint or original color and paint? Also, in the front photo the hood appears not to be closed, is it "sprung" in some manner, or just not closed all the way?
@76John – Hello All All gauges, knobs, heater and AC works. Sometimes the signal works fast and slow at times and to the left side sometimes it does not cancel, it has new tires and the brakes are all working good, some brake parts have been replaced. Thank You ...
Thank you!
@Faust – Nice example of the well-respected early 240D’s. Could the Seller describe anything on the car that is not working? (Other than the radio). It’s not unusual for something to be inoperable on a car that old, but it would be good to know specifically. Gauges, heater knobs and controls, wipers, lights, parking brake, blower. Does the pull-to-start knob work? Thank you. Beautiful car. ...
