This British built 1965 Land Rover Series IIA spent much of its life in Costa Rica before being imported to the US in 2018 where it recently underwent a full restoration by Burro 4X4 of Richmond, Virginia. Now finished in medium blue it features a tan-colored Safari hardtop with alpine windows and roof vents. The gasoline-powered 2.25-liter inline-four engine is mated to a rebuilt 4-speed manual transmission with an Ashcroft high-range gear set, and power is sent to all four wheels through a rebuilt dual-range transfer case. Now offered with records since restoration, the 88-inch wheelbase Series IIA is now offered with a clear Virginia title in the seller’s name.
During its restoration, the body and frame were disassembled, stripped, and repainted. Now finished in medium blue, other additions include new doors, locks, and latches, as well as galvanized door sills and powder coated hinges. The painted safari hardtop features alpine windows and roof vents. Custom lighting includes Hella high output halogen main sealed beams while rear taillights were converted to LED units. LED cube off-road lights were also added on all four corners of the vehicle. All the weatherstripping and seals were replaced during the restoration and the underside was coated for protection. Other notable exterior features include a fixed spare tire on the rear door and dynamic recovery points front and rear.
16 x 6.5” Wolf rims are fitted to Antares Deer Digger all-terrain tires measuring 245/75-16 on all four corners, along with the rear-mounted spare tire. Additional suspension upgrades include parabolic leaf springs, upgraded shock absorbers, and Pro-Comp long travel gas shocks. New seals, gaskets, bearings, swivel balls, and kingpins were installed as well. The original Warn locking hubs were replaced and adjusted while new brakes were equipped. All original fasteners were replaced with Grade 8 locking hardware for increased strength.
The interior was fully restored with new black vinyl upholstered seats and powder coated seat bases. Rear seats with storage underneath were also added. A new Mt. Mansfield high output heater from Rovers North has been fitted, along with all new wiring harnesses and custom interior lighting. A waterproof 12V charging port and USB plugs were also fitted to the interior for device charging.
A three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of centrally located instrumentation, including factory Jaeger gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 18K miles, though the seller notes true mileage is unknown.
The truck is powered by the original 2.25-liter gasoline 4-cylinder engine. The Ashcroft 4-speed transmission has been paired with a high range transfer case, enabling the vehicle to travel at highway speeds at lower RPM. A 2-barrel carburetor is also fitted to the engine providing a noticeable power increase over the stock unit. Additional upgrades include a Pertronix ignition module, a stainless-steel exhaust system, and underhood work lights.
The body was removed from the chassis during the restoration and all parts were painted or coated. The underside of the body has been sprayed with protective undercoating for durability and rust prevention.
This Series IIA comes with additional equipment, including 48" Hi-Lift jack mounted inside tub, four recovery tread plates, collapsible multi-function shovel, First Aid kit-Survival kit, a CRKT chopper/machete, spare headlight bulbs, and dynamic recovery rope.
