Vehicle Story

This 1925 Jewett 18-22 Touring Deluxe Brougham has been with a private collection for the last 10 years and is a running and driving example powered by a “Thrifty Six” 249ci inline-six backed by a 3-speed manual transmission. Built on a 112” wheelbase, it is reported to be one of an estimated 40,000 Jewett vehicles sold during the company’s four-year production run in the mid-1920s. A two-tone paint respray in turquoise and black was reportedly carried out under previous ownership, and a dark brown cloth interior provides seating for five. This nearly century-old Jewett 18-22 Touring has typically been driven exclusively for special occasions in recent years and is now offered with a Jewett reference book, a binder of documentation, and on a clear Texas title in the seller’s name.

The Jewett automobile brand had a four-year run beginning in 1922, and got its start in Detroit as a product of the Paige-Detroit Motor Car Company. The name came from its founder, Harry M. Jewett, and was applied to an estimated 40,000 vehicles before a branding shift changed the name to Paige. This Deluxe Brougham from 1925 is a two-door, five-passenger touring sedan that has been repainted turquoise with a black roof, black fenders, and a windshield visor. Bright finishes are featured on the headlight surrounds, radiator, and dual-bar front and rear bumpers, while running boards are covered in black narrow-ribbed rubber. Cargo-carrying capability is provided by a black metal box mounted behind the cab, as well as locations for two spare tires above the bumper. Rearward illumination consists only of a single "STOP"-labeled brake lamp at the driver's side.

Twelve-spoke wooden wheels wear red Jewett-branded center hubs.

The five-passenger cabin is fitted with two dark brown cloth front seats, a matching full-width rear bench, and brown carpet. Amenities are few, but include manual-crank front side windows and a wood-rimmed steering wheel. The dash was reportedly refinished in gray as part of the previous paintwork and has rudimentary vehicle controls and gauges.

The center of the dash houses three gauges for speed, voltage, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer sits inside the 60-mph speedometer and reads 21,245 miles, but total chassis mileage is unknown.

The “Thrifty Six” L-head 249ci inline-six was rated at 55 horsepower and is mounted within a center-hinged hood. Power is fed to the rear wheels through a 3-speed manual transmission, and the seller reports sound running condition.

The sale includes a Jewett reference book and a binder with documentation.
