This 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 two-door hardtop is equipped with a replacement 289ci V8 residing beneath a custom domed hood and is backed by a 2-speed Ford-O-Matic. Reported to have been repainted in blue metallic under prior ownership and been given an updated stereo system, American Racing wheels, and reupholstered seating among more detailed below. . Items of note include auxiliary gauges, a custom center console, and black vinyl bucket seats, and this 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 is offered on a clear South Dakota title in the selling dealer's name.
This Galaxie 500 is from the fourth model year of the second generation and features a formal “box top” roofline that came finished in Heritage Burgundy in April 1963. Later resprayed in blue metallic, the body was customized at the same time with the domed hood, Ford logo added to the grille, and clear front turn signal lenses. Brightwork on the exterior includes the front and rear bumpers, grille, side moldings, window trim, and sideview mirrors which are all reported to be in good condition. The seller notes some rust blemishes on the lower portion of the driver’s door and cracks on the hood surrounding the power dome, in addition to other details as shown in the photo carousel.
Aluminum five-spoke American Racing wheels are mounted and come wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires.
The interior is trimmed in black with the exception of a custom center console with cupholders wearing blue vinyl. The custom front buckets are upholstered in black vinyl and the rear bench is trimmed in both vinyl and cloth. An AM/FM/CD head unit is installed in the dash and wired to dual speakers in the rear parcel shelf, and a factory analog clock is mounted in the center of the dash.
Vehicle vitals are conveyed to the driver through a symmetrical gauge cluster with a horizontal speedometer and round dials for fuel level and temperature. Auxiliary gauges are present below the instrument panel and include oil and coolant temperature, while a Sunpro 8,000-rpm tachometer is mounted to the steering column. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 47k miles, but total mileage is unknown. The seller states that, based upon a thorough independent inspection, the reading is believed to be original.
The replacement 289ci V8 is reported to run well, having received recent service with no issues noted. Noteworthy features in the engine bay include “Powered By Ford” valve covers, a chrome air cleaner assembly, and an Optima Redtop battery. Power is transferred to the rear wheels through a 2-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission and a 3.25:1 rear axle.
