This 1978 Chevrolet Corvette is a Silver Anniversary edition that has been with the seller for 17 years. Equipment includes a 220-horsepower 350ci L82 small-block Chevrolet V8 backed by a 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic transmission, while features and amenities consist of power windows and locks, a tilting steering column, front disc brakes, and tinted windows. Finished in Silver Anniversary over a Mahogany interior, the seller details $5,500 in recent maintenance and servicing which is documented by an attached invoice. This Silver Anniversary edition is offered on a clear Ohio title in the seller's name.
The Corvette Silver Anniversary was created to celebrate the model's 25th year and examples were finished exclusively in Silver Anniversary with lower panels painted dark gray. Optional aluminum wheels (YJ8) were also part of the treatment, and the exterior wears Silver Anniversary badging which was applied to all 1978 model year Corvettes. Removable color-matched T-top panels are pictured removed and in place.
The aforementioned aluminum wheels were optional for regular 1978 Corvettes and standard on Silver Anniversary cars, and the seller says the set here has been refurbished. Tires are a matching set of BFGoodrich Radial T/A units with raised white lettering on the exterior sidewalls. Per included service records from March 2021, the following work was performed: replacement of the front brake calipers, front and rear brake pads, and parking brake hardware; repacking of the front wheel bearings; and machining of the front and rear rotors. In addition, the steering gearbox and power steering valve were replaced.
The cabin is lined with Magony upholstery, and the color extends beyond the seats and door panels to the carpeting, dash, and elsewhere. The three-spoke steering wheel is wrapped in matching material and is the factory-offered unit. The AM/FM radio is reported to have been refurbished, and the air conditioning system is said to run modern refrigerant. Corvette-branded aftermarket carpeted floor mats line the front footwells.
Optional power windows (A31) and power door locks (AU3) are present along with sport mirrors (D35). Instrumentation is viewed through the three-spoke steering wheel and includes a 7,000-rpm tachometer, 140-mph speedometer, and additional gauges in the center stack for fuel level, voltage, and more.
Beneath the hood sits the L82 350ci small-block Chevrolet V8, which wears GM corporate blue paint. Fueled by a Rochester four-barrel carburetor, output when new was 220 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 260 pound-feet of torque at 3,600. The 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission was available as a no-cost option. Work completed in March 2021 consisted of the following: resealing the valve coves; servicing the transmission and replacement of the shift shaft seal; replacement of the radiator and cooling, transmission, and fuel lines; and flushing the cooling system.
Under the car are all new front upper and lower A-arm bushings, ball joints, sway bar link kit, idler arm, and front and rear shocks. Other work consisted of degreasing the underside of the engine and transmission.
Maintenance and service records totaling approximately $5,500 are included with the car, as is a pamphlet from the Snook's Automobile Museum, where the car has been stored each winter.
