This 1971 Chevrolet K5 Blazer 4x4 is a two-door sport utility vehicle that has been refreshed with a new 383ci Stroker motor and new black vinyl bucket seats. Additional upgrades include a new exhaust, power steering, new brakes, new shocks, a modern audio system, auxiliary gauges, and new BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires on new 15" steel wheels. Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels via a 3-speed automatic transmission and NP205 transfer case. This first-generation Blazer is now offered in San Diego, California with a clear Washington title in the seller’s name.
The K5 Blazer first launched in 1969 leveraging a short-wheelbase chassis from the C/K family of Chevrolet pickups, and it was available in both two- and four-wheel drive for the 1971 model year. This example was manufactured as a 4x4 variant and was repainted in all black under previous ownership, while the seller has added a newer grille and lamp glass. The removable hardtop wears a textured finish and detaches to reveal a custom padded rollbar. Fitted at the rear are a hitch receiver and dual exhaust outlets. Carousel photos reveal older orange paint under the current black. Please note that the wheels shown in the photos of the vehicle without its top are longer on the vehicle.
New 15" black steel wheels are wrapped in brand new 32"x11.5" BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. The suspension consists of older leaf springs front and rear, plus new dual shocks up front. Braking is handled by upgraded newer brakes with Wilwood calipers up front and a replacement of the power vacuum actuator. The seller notes that a power booster should be added to the master cylinder to improve stopping power. A newer spare tire and wheel will go with the sale.
A replacement set of black vinyl bucket seats with a matching rear bench are reported to have been installed in 2020, as were new seat belts. Color-matching door panels, dash, vinyl flooring, and rubber mats complete the blacked-out look. A modern XO Vision head unit is connected to a back-up camera within the rearview mirror and a set of aftermarket door-mounted speakers. A photo of the rear cargo area shows wear and tear in the form of scratched and chipped paint, as well as some corrosion. Additional rust is present on the rockers per the seller.
Factory instrumentation consists of a 100-mph speedometer and gauges for voltage, coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. An aftermarket tachometer has been added to the steering column, and a trio of chrome-rimmed auxiliary gauges are mounted beneath the dash, showing readouts for oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. Although the vehicle has a five-digit odometer, actual mileage is not known.
The replacement 383ci stroker V8 is said to have accumulated fewer than 1,000 miles since installation one and a half years ago, and it is mated to a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission that saw a rebuild within the last two years. The seller notes that the exhaust is new from the headers back. Final power delivery is handled by a heavy-duty NP205 transfer case, and handling is managed by CVF Racing power steering pump and pulley.
Dual Rancho steering stabilizers are fitted underneath.
