This 1960 Imperial Crown Convertible is one of 618 built for its model year and is described as having been restored with refinished paint and brightwork, and a reupholstered interior by the seller. Powered by a rebuilt Chrysler 413ci backed by a rebuilt push-button 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic, equipment and features includes a 45-rpm record player, automatic headlight control, swiveling bucket seats, Chrysler's Torsion-Aire suspension, a FliteSweep deck lid, and power accessories such as the windows, locks, convertible top, and outside mirrors. Finished in Dawn Mauve with a white top over a white leather interior, this 1960 Imperial Crown is accompanied by its factory build card and offered by the selling dealer on a clear South Dakota title.
Imperial styling was updated for 1960, and sales grew to 17,719, eclipsing the performance of Lincoln. This Imperial Crown Convertible is one of 618 produced for 1960 and is described as restored by the seller, who notes a respray in the car's factory Dawn Mauve finish and replacement or polishing of exterior brightwork. Original equipment included a matching Dawn Mauve soft top, but the current white convertible top is power-operated and so are the exterior mirrors. The trunk lid is the optional FliteSweep design with a simulated continental tire bulge, and the taillights are Chrysler's "gunsight" design. Badging takes the form of Imperial scripts on the front fenders and grille, lettering on the rear end, and a crest on the trunk lid.
The 1960 model year saw the previous 14" wheels replaced by a set of 15" items, which wear factory-offered covers and whitewall tires on this Imperial.
The interior has been reupholstered using white leather per the seller, who also mentions carpeting for the cabin and trunk. Features of note include front sweats which swivel to allow for easier entry and exit, a 45-rpm record player, and power amenities such as the windows (including the vent windows), mirrors, door locks, and convertible top. The steering wheel is Chrysler's squared-off design from the period and a radio resembling the factory design is present. The pod mounted between the gauge binnacles is a sensor for the automatic beam changer, which raises, lowers, dims, and brightens the headlights depending on driving conditions and approaching traffic. The stamped trim tag for this Imperial Crown indicates that it originally came with a Light Mauve pearlescent leather interior.
Gauges are illuminated using Chrysler's Panelescent electroluminescent lighting which glows blue-green at night. Instrumentation takes the form of a 120-mph speedometer, and a combination gauge informing the driver of the charging system state, engine temperature, fuel level, oil pressure, and time.
The 413ci V8 is from Chrysler's B engine lineage and had an output of 350 horsepower at 4,600 rpm and 470 pound-feet of torque at 2,800 when new. A Carter AFB four-barrel carburetor was originally tasked with fuel delivery and a dual exhaust was standard. The seller states the engine and the push-button-operated 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission have been rebuilt.
Photos of the undercarriage are available for viewing in the carousel.
