This 1964 Mercury Comet 404 was refurbished prior to the seller taking ownership six years ago. Power is provided by a 351ci V8 paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, and performance enhancements include an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold, a Holley carburetor, a Pertronix distributor, Hooker headers, a high-capacity oil pan, and an aluminum radiator. The car is also equipped with a Mustang II front suspension with disc brakes and dual exhaust. The car was previously sold on AutoHunter but is being relisted after the sale fell through, at no fault of the seller. Recent updates commissioned by the seller include re-chromed bumpers, interior refreshments, and fresh weather stripping. This Comet is now offered with a shop manual, carpeted floor mats, a collection of small parts, receipts, and a clear Texas title in the seller's name.
The body is finished in Burnout Blue Metallic with chrome trim and features re-chromed bumpers and a body-colored engine bay and trunk. The seller reports and photos show age-related wear on the chrome trim and some dings in the windshield molding.
A set of 14" Cragar S/S wheels show some minor rust and are wrapped in 205/70 Hankook Optimo tires. The car is fitted with what is reported to be rack-and-pinion steering and front disc brakes from a Mustang II, rear drums, and dual exhaust. The factory spare will come with the car.
The interior is trimmed in "rolled and pleated" black cloth and vinyl upholstery, body-color dash, trim, and door metal, and a black headliner, door cards, dash pad, and carpet. Lap belts are installed front and rear, weather stripping has been replaced around the doors and trunk, and new felt has been added to the front windows. Felt for the rear windows is included with the sale. The car is not equipped with air conditioning.
Wiring, per the seller, was updated under previous ownership, and the lighting and horn are functioning properly. The seller has added a tachometer and gauges for amperage and water temperature gauge because the factory units, aside from the fuel gauge, do not work. The odometer shows under 26k miles, approximately 1,500 of which have been added by the seller over six years. True mileage is not known.
Power is provided by a bored-over 351ci Cleveland V8 equipped with an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold, Holley carburetor, Pertronix ignition, Hooker headers, high-capacity oil pan, and an aluminum radiator. Shifting is accomplished via a 4-speed manual transmission and the battery is located in the trunk. The seller reports a couple of small oil leaks from the engine.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
A shop manual, carpeted floor mats, a collection of small parts including rear window felt, and some service receipts will go with the car.

@Normlguyaz – So what was the final price last auction and what would you consider? I think this car is super sweet. Also did you say that it has a small leak somewhere? ...
I'm glad you still have an interest. Let me just say that it did not meet reserve, and I believe I have that set at a reasonable amount considering the condition of the car. I'm sure you can tell from the pics I posted that it is a pretty nice (sweet) car. Is it perfect? It's not, but I've picked up a few trophies with it, it gets a lot of attention, and the previous owner who did virtually all of the work to it, paid a lot of attention to detail. It's a straight car, no rust anywhere on the body nor inside trunk that I am aware of. Doors and trunk line up nicely, all glass is good, and the carpet and upholstery are in excellent condition ... no tears, no stains. It's a strong running car. No smoke, no water leaks that I know of but I don't get it out if the weather is threatening. The engine does leak a very small amount of oil, enough that I keep a drip pan under it, but it takes about 6 months to accumulate a very small puddle. I am not sure where the leak is. Bumpers are in excellent condition, I think I mentioned in the listing that the body trim does show what I consider normal for a car that age, and there are a couple of dings in the trim. Please don't hesitate to ask if you have any additional questions!
@rbs31952 – I honestly have no idea Drew. I think the bidder just changed his mind, he offered no explanation. I'll be glad to answer any other questions you may have. ...

@Hunter65 – Is the roll bar removable ...
It is not designed in a w ay that it could be removed and re-installed. I do not believe it would be a major project to remove it, but it would require cutting the tubing that it is constructed of in several places. The back seat is still easily accessible, there is no problem with entry/exit to the rear seat.

@ronshelby662 – Just found and went thru the picture gallery. Got most of the questions answered via the photos. ...
Hello, been running and just got a chance to check questions. I believe it is a T-10 trans, I'm not absolutely certain. I purchased the car pretty much as you see it, so some things I can verify, some I cannot. I believe the engine to be a '74 model, according to the previous owner it was rebuilt and bored .020. It does have Edelbrock intake, Holley 4 bbl., Hooker headers, Pertronix distributor and coil, and per the previous owner a Zoom clutch disc and pressure plate. It also has a "posi-trac" rearend. It's a strong running car, I do not abuse it, but it has strong low-end power. Yes, it does in fact have a roll bar, I assume more for looks than anything else, but it is well built, and the installation was top notch in my opinion. Oh, it also has a mild cam, but I do not know the specs. I appreciate your inquiry ... if you think of anything else give me a shout! Brent
