This 1949 Oldsmobile Futuramic 98 Deluxe Sedan is described as partially restored, and is powered by a first-year 303ci Oldsmobile Rocket V8 with a Carter two-barrel carburetor and a replaced exhaust system. Items of note include auxiliary lighting, suspension stabilization, exterior brightwork, and a rear console, while power is sent to the rear tires through a 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Finished in Crest Blue over a gray cloth interior, this third-generation Oldsmobile 98 is offered on a clear Illinois title in the seller’s name.
The Futuramic nameplate was applied to Oldsmobile’s C-body Series 70 vehicles beginning in 1949 and was retired shortly thereafter. Finished in a Crest Blue respray that was reportedly applied as part of a prior restoration, the body is said to be rust-free and retains the car’s two-piece windshield design with built-in washers. Optional equipment includes exterior brightwork, a hood ornament, and a sideview mirror, in addition to lighting such as the driving and fog lamps, back-up lamps, and turn signals.
Wheels are 15" items with stainless-steel trim rings and polished caps, and come wrapped in Diamond Back 225-section whitewall tires. The suspension was reportedly rebuilt in 2016 and features quadra-coil architecture with a knee-action front end and coil springs at the rear. Handling is further assisted by dual stabilizing arms, front and rear stabilizers, and replacement double-action shock absorbers all around. The braking system was reportedly serviced in 2016 and is said to use super-hydraulic hardware with four-wheel drums.
The interior contains reupholstered gray cloth seating for six. Interior Deluxe conveniences include a rear center armrest and a model-specific steering wheel. A vintage-look stereo with USB input is fitted. Additional amenities include a heater and defroster, and lights for the glovebox, hood, and trunk.
Instrumentation takes the form of a 110-mph speedometer surrounded by gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, voltage, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 60k miles, but total chassis mileage is unknown.
The 303ci Oldsmobile Rocket V8 was first offered for 1949 and the unit here was rebuilt by a specialty garage in East Lansing, Michigan per the seller. Output when new was 135 horsepower at 3,600 rpm with 263 pound-feet of torque at 1,800, power which is sent to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed Hydra-Matic transmission with a column shift. The exhaust system and battery are reported to have been replaced and the electrical system is the original six-volt design.

@whakatustu – thank you for the detailed undercarriage pictures. a very nice car ...
Thanks!
@Lawmar – Engine was rebuilt, was transmission serviced, seals, etc? Any leaks in drive train? ...
Hi, I was told the engine was rebuilt 60,000 miles ago along with the transmission. It runs great! The engine has a leak, I am not sure where? It could be an oil pan or a rear/front main seal. The leak is small, so I have not worried about it, I use about 1/2 quart of oil per oil change. The trans has a small leak too. I have been told that is hard not to have the car, not leak because of the type of seals that are used for these. The differential does not leak.
thank you for the detailed undercarriage pictures. a very nice car
