The silent auction… I’m sorry that I missed the end. I was unable to be here at that time. I wanted to bid! I hope the seller is sufficiently satisfied. Buyer got an awesome deal.

@EFdz – @JaguarFinnMagenta, thank you very much for your detailed response. In summary, I take that your Series 3 is in a great shape, requiring nothing substantial in order to run like a top for many miles and years to come so long as its regular, scheduled maintenance services are timely supplied to it only. That is awesome for a motorcar with almost 210,000 miles driven! Congratulations!! May questions be made publicly here only? No questions to the seller directly, privately possible? ...

Yes, I believe with regular scheduled maintenance, this Jaguar will run smoothly for many more years & reach the status of an antique and go beyond. I’ve treated this car gingerly throughout my ownership & hope the new owner will take just as good care of it. I’ve checked the Bidder FAQS & it looks like the only contact with the Seller during the auction process is through the public comments & questions section. If the reserve is not met, a Bidder may call AutoHunter “or email to submit a post-sale offer or comment on the listing. AutoHunter will continue working to facilitate the sale.”

@EFdz – Hello, @JaguarFinnMagenta Very pretty Series 3 XJ6. That color is very nice. When I first read "purple" I thought that it might be Aubergine. I wasn't that lucky..! I'm new here. I'd like to know: 1) Is this a Reserve auction or a No Reserve one? 2) How minor are the engine oil leaks? How often do you have to refill, how much? Has your mechanic told you whether they can continue like that for thousands of miles without a problem? Is it a Jag specialist mechanic? 3) Would you please explain in detail the intermittent stalls under heavy accelerations when first driving after a cold start? What's the (worsening/ risks) outlook of this condition? 4) Tires urgently need to be replaced, right? Rim 15? 5) What's the specific diagnosis of that air conditioning system leak (in order to be able to get an estimate for it)? (Or do you have one? At least a rough, approximate one?) 6) Finally: in the absence of a PPI; acknowledging that it's a 40-year old vehicle (and that parts age, degrade, fail, etc.) that's been used for 105,000 miles: what can you, who know it since birth, tell me that, other than its regular, scheduled maintenance, it will need (proactive or preventive repairs or maintenance, etc.), immediately or within the next, say, three to six to nine months, so that it can be used as a daily driver and reach 125,000 miles running like a top? Thanks in advance for your kind attentions! Best, ...

This comment is to complete my answer to your question #6 (I ran out of space in the previous answer): I’ve been driving the Jaguar about 10-15 miles, 3 times a week for the last 4 years & don’t anticipate any issues with driving it on a daily basis for the foreseeable future. However, I do not have a crystal ball & it is 41 years old. Because of its age, owning this car of leisure will be a labor of love & as such should go to someone who really loves Jaguars, especially this Classic & soon to be antique model.

Thanks for your questions. The color is a custom, one-of-kind & is BEAUTIFUL! I get many smiles & thumbs up when I drive it. It was Claret (burgundy) when I wanted to repaint it in December of 1999. I told the shop I wanted a purple car & showed them a Chrysler Deep Cranberry Pearl color. They said I should paint it a Jaguar color & showed me an Amaranth Mica (with flake). I thought that color was too dark so they painted 3 panels; one Deep Cranberry Pearl, one Amaranth Mica, one a blend of the two of them. EVERYONE loved the custom color that I’ve named Finn Magenta. 1. Yes, a reserve auction. 2. Oil Leaks: There’s minor leakage & it’s a known issue that’s common with older Jaguars. Depending on usage, I put a quart in every 3-6 months. To be safe & depending on how much I drive it, I usually check the oil every 1-2 months. For the last 10 years, it’s been driven about 2,400 miles/year & some years much less. Most all of my mechanics have been Jaguar or British import specialists. Because of the known issues, my mechanics (including one who owned a Series III Jaguar like this) have never indicated a problem with continuing to drive the car. One of my mechanics is from England, worked in the Jaguar plant there, rebuilds Jaguars, & everyone in the shop really likes this car. 3. Occasional Spat: Sometimes when I first start the car & accelerate quickly, I lose power, have to back off the acceleration & have to proceed a little slower for a short time. My mechanic did experience this “spat” at my last service in October & some spark plugs were replaced. It was recommended to add fuel cleaner for a couple hundred miles, which I have done. I’ve driven it about 200 miles since then & I’ve experienced the spat once. 4. Tires: The tires should be replaced but there is tread & the car can still be driven. The rim is 15. 5. A/C: I don’t have a diagnosis or estimate for the slow leaking Freon & this has been going on for many years. During October’s service, the A/C system was evacuated, charged, Freon was added & the A/C is working fine. This A/C system since purchase has never been as strong as newer autos. I usually add Freon on a yearly basis & have had no problems while living in the L.A. area. I do NOT recommend this car be driven in snow conditions because it’s too low to the ground. 6. Proactive/Preventative Services: It’s interesting you state “what can you, who know it since birth” since this car was a gift when I found out I was 1st pregnant in 1985. I had a miscarriage but got to keep the Jaguar. (This story has a happy ending because we tried again & our daughter was born about a year later.) After the October service, there was no mention of future repairs or what I should be watching for. As stated in the original AutoHunter listing, the odometer read 104,852 and the original odometer was replaced in 1999. When it was replaced, the old odometer read 104,081 so the current total mileage is approximately 208,933.
