This 1937 GMC Half-Ton pickup is a custom-built example that sits on a 1987 Chevrolet S-10 frame with highlights that include a 4" chop, fiberglass bodywork, and a 350ci small-block Chevrolet V8 running a mild cam and Edelbrock performance parts. The transmission is a GM Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed and stopping power comes courtesy of Wilwood front brakes. Features and equipment include Vintage Air climate control, VDO gauges, tinted glass, and a CD head unit, among more detailed below. Finished in PPG Viper Red, this 1937 Dodge Half-Ton is offered on a clear North Carolina title in the seller's name.
The 1937 model year was the first for GMC’s lineup of light-duty pickups, with a body style that carried forward for just one subsequent year. While exhibiting design aesthetics shared across similar-sized Chevrolet trucks, this GMC has custom underpinnings, sitting on a 1987 Chevrolet S-10 pickup frame and having been painted PPG Viper Red with clear coat from the same manufacturer. Additionally, the customization of this pickup extends to a 4” chop for the roofline, the integration of fiberglass fenders and running boards, and the fabrication of a custom bed with a diamond plate floor. Brightwork is limited to a mesh grille, chrome headlight rings, and sideview mirrors.
Wheels are a set of chrome Coys C-5 five-spoke items wrapped in BFGoodrich low-profile tires. Power steering and brakes use S-10 hardware, including the master cylinder and brake booster. The front brakes use Wilwood Dynalite Pro Series calipers, and the rear brakes are drums from an S-10. The suspension consists of front coilovers and leaf springs in the rear paired with Monroe shocks and a front sway bar.
The interior has tan vinyl bucket seats with fold-down armrests and matching carpeting, while the door panels and dash are color-matched to the exterior. Convenience options include a power-operated driver's seat, a tilt-adjustable steering column from a Chevrolet S-10, tinted glass with new seals, a B&M sport shifter, and a CD head unit in a custom enclosure. Cabin temperatures are moderated by a Gen II Mini climate-control system from Vintage Air with heat, air conditioning, and defrost with a chrome compressor in the engine bay.
A 200-mph VDO speedometer is augmented by displays for oil pressure, fuel level, coolant, temperature, and voltage. The odometer is digital and reads 8,500 miles, reflective of the distance driven since completion of the build.
The 350ci V8 was sourced from a 1985 Chevrolet, and upgrades to the powerplant include an Edelbrock Performer carburetor, air cleaner and valve covers, aluminum intakes, a chrome alternator, a mild RV camshaft, and an EZ-wiring system. A Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed from a 1969 model year GM vehicle sends power to the Chevrolet S-10 rear end, and a transmission cooler is fitted.
