This 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible comes from the final year of Beetle convertible in the United States and Canada until the subsequent “New Beetle” debuted in 2001. Power is derived from a 1,600cc flat-four mated with a 4-speed manual transaxle, and per the seller, the car runs, drives, and stops well. Finished in blue metallic with a black retractable top over a gray vinyl interior, this Super Beetle is now offered with service records and with a clear Alabama title in the seller’s name.
This Super Beetle carries overall design language that dates back to the late 1930s and has been finished in blue metallic topped by a black cloth retractable roof with a plastic rear window. This Beetle has reportedly been garage-kept under current ownership and is reported to be in good condition throughout, featuring brightwork front and rear bumpers with rub strips, headlight rings, side moldings, and more.
Whitewall tires have been mounted to the 15” Lemmerz sport steel wheels with center caps.
Inside the cabin, seating is provided by gray vinyl bucket seats up front with a bench in the rear, contrasted by black vinyl door panels, a black dash, and black carpeting. Amenities include woodgrain dash trim, a Wolfsburg-crested steering wheel, and a modern radio.
Instrumentation shows a 100-mph speedometer with an inset fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 33k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The air-cooled 1,600cc flat-four is equipped with fuel injection and was factory rated at 48 horsepower and 75 lb-ft of torque at 2,800 RPM when new. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transaxle.
Additional undercarriage photos can be found in the gallery.
The sale includes over 25 years of service records.
