This 1989 Pontiac Firebird is presented as one of 500 special-edition “Bandit II” models produced by Chattanooga Custom Center, a division of Choo Choo Customs, in Tennessee as part of a limited run for the model year. A 5.0-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission powers this F-body sports coupe, and amenities include removable glass roof panels, a rear spoiler, and special embroidery in the upholstery. Finished in Bright Red over a gray cloth interior, this third-generation Firebird is now offered with a CARFAX report with a clear Arizona title in the seller’s name.
When developing the fourth-generation Firebird and its Camaro sibling in 1982 on the F-body platform, GM engineers raked the windshield at 62 degrees and incorporated the use of pop-up headlamps, resulting in the most aerodynamic product released by GM until that date. This example wears an exclusive Bandit II cosmetic package that incorporates color-matched underbody aero treatment, fog lamps, a rear spoiler, and special decals to authenticate its one-of-500 limited production. The exterior finish was reportedly subject to a repaint in Bright Red (81) and no longer displays its original “Screamin' Chicken” decal on the hood, but it does have hand-painted gold pinstriping and Firebird logos on each sail panel. Additional exterior equipment includes removable glass T-Tops and dual exhausts. The vehicle's weather stripping has also been replaced. The seller notes the hood emblem will be installed June 29th, 2021.
Factory gold-accented 16” honeycomb wheels with polished lips are mounted to replacement BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires all the way around. The car is equipped with power steering and power disc breaks that were recently replaced.
The interior features gray cloth bucket seats with matching door panels and carpeting, contrasted by a black dash and center console. Gold “Bandit II” logos adorn each front headrest and a dash plaque identifies this car as number 40 in the series of 500 produced. The air conditioning system has reportedly been overhauled, and a factory-issued Delco AM/FM stereo is installed.
Instrumentation is provided by a 120-mph speedometer, 6,000-rpm speedometer, and gauges for voltage and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 123k miles, CARFAX notes a not actual title was issued .on June 30, 1992, in the state of Kentucky.
The fuel-injected numbers-matching 5.0-liter 305ci V8 was factory rated at 225 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque when new. According to the seller, work was performed recently on the headlight motors, and a replacement muffler was installed. Power is moved to the rear wheels by way of a 4-speed automatic transmission and a console-mounted shift lever.
