Vehicle Story

This 1989 Ford Mustang GT is a one-owner, unmodified example that has been driven 43,125 miles since new. Power comes from its original 5.0-liter High-Output V8 which is coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission. Offering GT-specific exterior aero treatment, a Traction-Lok rear axle, and power convenience options, this third-generation Mustang is finished in red over a Medium Gray cloth interior and features lumbar-adjustable front buckets. This Fox Body is now offered with a clean CARFAX report and a clear Michigan title in the seller’s name.

Debuting for 1979, the third-generation Mustang rode on the Fox platform and could be configured as a coupe, a hatchback, or a convertible. A refresh in 1987 replaced the initial “four eyes” headlamp design to more modern flush headlamps with improved aerodynamics. This example is an unmodified hatchback that reportedly retains its original red paint, having been purchased new in Texas by the seller and then spending the majority of its life in Michigan, garaged since 1996. Design aesthetics on the exterior include color-matched body side moldings, a smoothed aero front end, integrated fog lamps, underbody kit, louvered taillights, and a rear wing spoiler.

Factory 15” turbine-style aluminum wheels are wrapped around power-assisted brakes with discs up front and drums in the rear. A power rack-and-pinion steering system is equipped, and GT models received variable-rate springs, gas-pressurized struts and shocks, and a quadra-shock rear suspension.

Medium Gray cloth bucket seats are installed up front and feature power-adjustable lumbar support, while a split-folding bench provides seating in the rear. Color-matched door panels, console panels, and other interior finishes are contrasted by black tones on the dash. Convenience amenities include power windows, power door locks, cruise control, an AM/FM radio, and illuminated visor mirrors. Although this Mustang is equipped with factory air conditioning, the system is not currently working per the seller.

Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 43,142 miles, which the seller asserts is true and accurate.

The fuel-injected High-Output 5.0-liter V8 carried a factory rating of 225 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque when new. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a console-shifted 4-speed automatic transmission with a Traction-Lok rear axle.

The CARFAX report shows no history of accidents or damage and documents one Michigan owner from new. Five videos are available for viewing below.
