Vehicle Story

This 1986 Ford Mustang GT is presented as a one-family-owned, unmodified convertible that has accrued 29,850 miles since new and is powered by a numbers-matching 5.0-liter V8 backed by a 5-speed manual transmission. Originally sold new in August 1986 by Marty Franich Ford in Watsonville, California, this Mustang has resided in California its entire life, having been transferred from the original owner to a family member in March 2021. Finished in Oxford White with a matching power-operated soft top over a beige cloth interior, this Mustang is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean CARFAX report, a Marti Report, owner’s manual, service records, a smog certificate, a top boot, and a clear California title.

First launched in 1979, the Fox platform carried on through 1993 with several changes, and this example comes from the final model year offering quad sealed-beam headlamps. Finished in GT trim, the car is said to retain its original coat of Oxford White (5920-A) with a matching white power-operated top, a glass rear window, and contrasting black beltline moldings. The accompanying Marti Report identifies this car as one of 105 produced in these paint and trim codes. Additional exterior treatment is comprised of GT Hood decal delete, fender-mounted 5.0 emblems, quad headlamps, a rear luggage rack, fog lamps, and dual exhaust outlets. The photo carousel illustrates the vehicle in both top-up and top-down modes. The seller notes that the lower front air dam shows light scuffing when viewed on a lift.

Ten-hole 15” alloy wheels are wrapped in 225-section Uniroyal Tiger Paw tires with 2019 date codes. As part of a comprehensive March 2021 service, the front struts and rear shocks were reportedly replaced.

The interior offers Sand Beige cloth upholstery with red accent piping for the bucket seats, along with matching door panels, dash, center console, and carpeting. Amenities include a factory “Premium Sound” AM/FM/cassette radio.

Instrumentation is derived from an 85-mph speedometer, a 7,000-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, voltage, and oil pressure. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 29,830 miles, which the seller asserts is a true original reading.

The 5.0-liter 302ci High-Output V8 features fuel injection and was factory rated at 200 horsepower, reportedly holding a clean bill of health thanks to a $1,992 service performed within the last six months and 200 miles. Service items included a tune-up with replacement spark plugs, distributor cap, spark plug wires, fuel filter, injector flush, and fluid change. Additionally, the transmission and differential were serviced, the master cylinder was replaced, and the battery was changed. Power is channeled to the rear tires via a 5-speed manual transmission with an overdrive and a 2.73 Traction Lok rear end.

The undercarriage is reportedly rust-free with only minor corrosion as a result of the vehicle’s age. Photos showing the underside are available in the carousel.

The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record. The vehicle passed a California state smog inspection on March 9, 2021. The sale includes a top boot, as well as a Marti report, owner’s manual, and service records.

@TUFRN – It appears to NOT have air conditioning. Is this true???? Beautiful car, but cannot live in Kansas without A/C. California maybe. Please let me know if this is true. ...

You are correct, no AC. The owner used it as a second car and didn't want or need AC. He wanted all the power to go to the wheels!

@Calidude – When was the car repainted and why? Do you have all the service history documentation for the car to substantiate the claimed actual mileage? ...

The GT hasn't been repainted. I thought the same thing when I first saw it since it doesn't have the black GT graphic on the hood. It was ordered with the "Decal delete" per the Marti Report. I just realized the Marti didn't make the pictures. Will be adding those shortly.
