This 1961 MG MGA 1600 Mark II roadster offers open-air bucket seating for two, featuring a black cloth retractable top and vinyl tonneau cover. Riding on a set of chrome-finished wire wheels, this roadster is powered by a 1,622cc inline-four paired with a 4-speed manual transmission and was serviced in summer 2020. Finished in red with a black cloth retractable top over a reupholstered tan vinyl interior, this MGA is now offered with a tonneau cover and clear New Jersey title in the seller’s name.
The MGA model first launched in the year 1955 leveraging a body-on-frame chassis design, and a subsequent refresh in 1959 incorporated cosmetic changes such as revised clear-lens turn signals, taillamps, and badging. This example is painted red and features an accompanying black cloth manually-retractable top. The perimeter is accented by bright trim for the bumpers with guards, grille, headlight rings, windshield surround, a fender-mounted driver side view mirror, and more.
Chrome-finished 15” wire wheels wear spinner hubcaps. The body rides on an independent suspension with coil springs up front and semi-elliptic springs at the rear, and the steering system is a rack and pinion. Braking is handled by discs up front and drums in the rear.
The interior is fitted with reupholstered tan vinyl bucket seats, with color-matched door panels contrasted by black lap belts and replacement black carpeting. The dash face is color-matched to the exterior red and holds a rearview mirror at the top center.
Instrumentation is framed by a four-spoke banjo-style steering wheel and includes a 120-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and accompanying gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 24k miles, although true mileage on the chassis is unknown.
The B-series 1,622cc inline-four incorporates larger valves and reengineered combustion chambers compared to prior motors, featuring dual carburetors and carrying a factory rating of 90 horsepower. Service was completed in summer 2020 and is due for current maintenance. Power is fed to the rear wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission.
