This 1966 Ford Mustang coupe is a largely original pony car that has received a cosmetic refurbishment both inside and out, including an insulated and reupholstered two-tone vinyl interior with woodgrain trim, a Pony Package steering wheel, and a Bluetooth-equipped radio. Power comes from a 289ci V8 backed by a C4 Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission, and the drivetrain benefits from recent maintenance to the ignition, cooling system, carburetor, and fuel system. Finished in Sauterne Gold with a black vinyl roof, this first-generation Mustang is now offered with a clear Illinois title in the seller’s name.
Moving into its second model year, the Mustang pony car received distinct trim changes including a new slotted grille, different wheel covers, and a modified fuel cap. This 1966 coupe retains its original rust-free steel body and was repainted Sauterne Gold (Z) with a contrasting black vinyl roof. The chrome and accompanying bright trim accents were replaced or replated as part of the restoration, including the bumpers, grille, side trim, badging, and driver sideview mirror. The seller notes that there is a wrinkle in the body near the left taillight.
Steel wheels with bright covers wear newer whitewall tires, and handling is managed by way of power-assisted steering and recently adjusted four-wheel drum brakes. The suspension received work including new Monroe shock absorbers, repacked wheel bearings, and new wheel seals.
The interior is dressed with replacement two-tone vinyl bucket seats from a Pony package interior, color-matching door panels, newer carpeting, and Mustang-embroidered floor mats. Three of the floor pans were replaced prior to installation of Dynamat Extreme insulation, and recent interior updates consist of the replacement of the air boxes and redirection of the air hoses, as well as installation of new chrome-plated baffles and hoses for the stock air conditioning system. Other additions include new window brushes and weather stripping, a retro-design Bluetooth-enabled radio, and a plaid vinyl mat in the trunk along with a matching cover for the spare. The seller notes that the air conditioning system needs a new condenser.
Instrumentation includes a 140-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and voltage. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows approximately 31,000 miles, although true chassis mileage is not known.
The 289ci V8 is upgraded with a Holley Street Avenger 2300 carburetor, a Pertronix ignition system, replacement spark plug wires, and Champion spark plugs. The radiator and hoses were replaced, as well as the battery, air filter, fuel filter, muffler, and transmission pan gasket. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a C4 Cruise-O-Matic 3-speed automatic transmission with a floor-mounted T-handle shift lever.
Additional photos of the undercarriage are available in the gallery.
Refurbishment documentation will go with the car.

The panel is all metal, no filler. Not sure how the tinkle happened, maybe something in the trunk was not secured down and banged against the wall. Just a guess, no scratches from the outside.
Do you know what caused the crinkle in the rear panel? Too much filler? Poor preparation of the paint? Old panel damahe?
