This 1986 Ford Bronco II XLT 4x4 is a largely original example that has resided in California since new and wears its original blue plates. Power comes from a 2.9-liter V6 paired with a rebuilt 5-speed manual transmission and a 2-speed transfer case, and drivetrain maintenance is up to date with a recent service performed in February 2021. Additional work has included a replacement clutch, slave cylinder, and front brakes. Finished in two-tone light blue and white over a matching cloth interior, this Bronco II is now offered with owner’s documentation, extra keys, a CARFAX report with a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The Bronco II compact sport utility vehicle first launched in 1984 on a chassis derived from the Ford Ranger pickup. This example is painted two-tone light blue and white with dark blue accent striping. Exterior design treatment includes bright bumpers with rubber guards, aluminum running boards, roof rails, and a Bronco II-branded vinyl spare tire cover mounted to the tailgate on a swing-away carrier. As shown in the photo gallery, the front right fender has sustained some damage near the marker light, and the tailgate has some scratches.
Replacement 15” machined aluminum wheels from a later model Ford Explorer are mounted to newer Laufenn X Fit AT tires, and the seller states that the front brakes have been replaced. The suspension features a Twin Traction Beam independent front end and leaf springs in the rear, with Sensatrac struts all around.
The interior is upholstered in original blue and white striped cloth for the front buckets, with small tears shown in the front buckets. The rear seat is a 50/50 split bench with matching materials, and the door panels, center console, dash, and carpeting are blue. A vinyl retractable cargo area cover is mounted within the far rear. Finishing touches include a woodgrain dash applique, power windows, lumbar front seat adjustment, power door locks, cruise control, and an AM/FM/cassette head unit. Air conditioning is factory-equipped but is not working currently per the seller.
Instrumentation is provided by rounded gauges within a woodgrain bezel including an 85-mph speedometer, 7k-rpm tachometer, and inset readouts for a coolant temperature gauge and a fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 2,656 miles, though true mileage is unknown.
The 2.9-liter V6 was factory-rated at 140 horsepower, and service was performed in February 2021 per the CARFAX report. Power is sent to all four wheels via a rebuilt 5-speed manual transmission with a 2-speed transfer case, and the seller reports replacement of the clutch and slave cylinder.
Photos showing the underside are available in the gallery.
The CARFAX report shows a mileage inconsistency beginning February 2021 due to the five-digit odometer roll-over. The vehicle passed a California emissions inspection in April 2021. The sale includes owner’s manuals, a warranty booklet, promotional documentation, extra keys, and spare rear brake components.
I wanted to add that I have all four new tires on this bronco II with approximately 200 miles on them. This is a pristine bronco II that has been very well taken care of since 1986. If anyone has any questions please feel free to ask away! Thanks Deanna
