Vehicle Story

This 1973 Ford Mustang Mach 1 two-door SportsRoof is powered by a 351ci Cleveland V8 that breathes through a Ram Air hood and is paired with a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. Reportedly originating in Florida, this Mach 1 was later relocated to Michigan where it saw summertime use under long-term ownership. Recent maintenance has included a front suspension rebuild, an oil change, replacement gauges, and more. Finished in Gold over a tan vinyl interior, this Mustang is now offered with service records and a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.

First debuting in 1969, the Mustang Mach 1 received a facelift from 1971 through 1973 which gave it a SportsRoof body style, a color-keyed urethane front bumper, honeycomb grille, and other cosmetic updates. This example is reported to be rust-free and was repainted in Gold, accented by matte-black accents for the side stripes, a Ram Air hood with pins, and a vinyl roof. Mach 1 decals were applied to the factory-correct locations on the sides and the trunk lid, and aerodynamics are optimized through the use of a lower front air dam, rear-window louvers, and a trunk-mounted spoiler.

Chrome-finished five-spoke 14” Magnum 500-style wheels are wrapped in newer Goodyear Eagle GT II raised-white-letter tires. Braking is handled by front disc brakes, and steering is power-assisted. The front suspension was recently rebuilt, receiving replacement upper A-arms and an alignment.

The interior is fitted with tan vinyl bucket seats, with matching materials for the door panels, center console, dash, and carpeting. Mustang-branded floor mats are placed in the footwells, and the Sports Deck rear seat folds down. The seller states that the heater and blower motor are operating as designed, and the car is equipped with factory air conditioning but the system is not blowing cold.

Instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and original gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The fuel gauge was replaced in 2020 per the seller. The five-digit mechanical odometer reads 65k miles, although true mileage is unknown.

The numbers-matching 351ci Cleveland V8 features a two-barrel carburetor and a blue-finished air cleaner for the Ram Air intake system. An oil change was performed in late 2020. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission and a T-handle console-mounted shift lever.

The sale includes service records.
