This 1984 Porsche 928S two-door hatchback has covered 77,497 miles since new and has been treated to a full mechanical refresh under current ownership, receiving updates to the cooling, ignition, and fuel systems as well as extensive work to the interior. Powered by a 4.7-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission, this 928S was reportedly originally sold September 30, 1983, in Santa Cruz, California, and has remained in the state since new. A subsequent owner retained the car for over 30 years until November 2020 at which time the seller took ownership. Finished in Light Bronze Metallic over a brown leather interior, this 928S is now offered with a clean CARFAX report with extra parts, extra keys, owner’s manual, documentation, a tonneau cover, a cargo net, and a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The Porsche 928 grand tourer launched in 1978 by blending sports and luxury features together into a 2+2 hatchback body design. This example from 1984 is painted Light Bronze Metallic (R6) and features S-model aero equipment including front and rear spoilers in addition to signature pop-up headlamps. Exterior stone chips have been touched up per the seller and the paint finish was subject to a full detail.
The 928 was engineered with 50/50 weight distribution for optimal handling, riding on a fully independent suspension both front and rear. Factory 16” wheels have been color-matched in Light Bronze Metallic to the body and are wrapped in Hankook Ventus tires that were replaced within the last 500 miles. Handling is assisted by power steering and power brakes, and the braking system received recent work including rotor, pad, and master cylinder replacement along with a system flush.
The interior is configured in a 2+2 seating setup, with power-operated brown leather buckets up front along with matching door panels, dash, and carpeting. Refurbishment work included the replacement of the dash pad and the installation of a carpeted dash mat, as well as the replacement of buttons for the climate control interface. A Blaupunkt AM/FM/cassette stereo and 60-watt amplifier were added, and additional conveniences include air conditioning, power windows, and power door locks. A rear tonneau cover and a cargo net are included with the sale.
Instrumentation includes a 170-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows approximately 77,500 miles, which the seller asserts is a true reading.
The Bosch fuel-injected 4.7-liter V8 was factory rated at 234 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque and has been recently serviced under the seller’s ownership with an extensive checklist of areas addressed. Some of those include an oil change, replacement cap and rotor, spark plugs, belts, hoses, a cooling system flush, and a replacement thermostat. The fuel tank was removed, flushed, and cleaned, and received a replacement sending unit and gasket. There was also service to the air conditioning system, the power antenna wiring, the transmission, the cruise control brain, and a replacement battery. This 928S passed a California emissions inspection in November 2020 per the CARFAX, and power is transferred via a 4-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record, with the first record appearing in June 1994. The sale includes an extra oil filter, original keys, a sales brochure, a stamped warranty book, a cargo net, a tonneau cover, and more.

@Cogswell1777 – AC works 100 % .. it was working pretty good . I had it leak tested & it took 2 Lbs of Freon . Now it’s ice cold . If you punch it to the floor it will disengage the compressor , they all do . The belts were also changed . Timing Belt was done & 73 K miles & is like new . Tranny was done along with filter . Trans axle was flushed . All power equipment works . I’m a collector & have quite a few cars , I try my best to make them perfect , original and dependable as possible. I have techs that specialize in different brands that I use for years . I just got off the boat after 5 hours with kids & Grand Kids , I wouldn’t drive around the block right now and they want me to take them all for Pizza Birthday Day Party 😢 ? I think a better question right now is do I think the car would make it across country ? I think so , yes . Car spent 3 months with Porsche expert tech . I have put about 500 miles on it & the tires are about a year old with no more than 1000 miles. But please remember there are no guarantees on any car going any distance? Sorry for the long reply. Best Regards & Thanks for your interest & Bids. ...
I'm in your same boat..pardon the pun. Have my share of cars in the stable. All but one I would 100% drive across the USA in. But, as noted, even my newest and most reliable car is prone to uh-oh's. Thank you for your responses. Go enjoy the grand kids....
