This 1992 Porsche 968 cabriolet has covered 37,053 miles since new and received fastidious attention to maintenance over its entire lifespan, undergoing a timing belt and water pump replacement within the last few years as well as service to the cooling system, brakes, and air conditioning. Power comes from a 3.0-liter inline-four that has VarioCam variable valve timing and is mated to a 6-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes a modern audio system, embroidered floor mats, automatic climate control, and more. Finished in Guards Red over a tan leather interior, this second-year 968 is now offered with a clean CARFAX report with a clear California title in the seller’s name.
The 968 model debuted in 1991 with front-engine, rear-wheel-drive, water-cooled engineering, and was offered in convertible form as shown in this example. This unmodified cabriolet retains its original Guards Red (G1) paint that is contracted by a black cloth power-operated retractable top. The exterior is further characterized by pop-up headlamps and design elements including driving lights, color-matched side view mirrors, a polished exhaust outlet, and a trunk-mounted LED third brake lamp. This car is reportedly one of 2,008 units from 968 cabriolet production for the North American market.
Cup-style 16” five-spoke aluminum wheels with Porsche center crests are wrapped in newer 205/55-series Pantera Touring A/S tires. Suspension architecture has been configured for weight distribution, and the braking system features four-wheel discs and Porsche-branded calipers. Maintenance records on the CARFAX report state that the brake lines and fluid were replaced in 2014.
The interior is upholstered with power-adjustable tan leather and cloth bucket seats with matching door panels, center console, and carpeting. The dash is two-tone in design with a black upper pad, and the footwells wear Porsche-embroidered floor mats. Amenities include automatic climate control, cruise control, automatic climate control, and a Kenwood AM/FM/CD head unit with Bluetooth and USB connectivity.
Instrumentation includes a 180-mph speedometer, a 7,500-rpm tachometer, and additional gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and voltage. An analog clock is present in the center stack. The six-digit mechanical odometer reads 37,053 miles, which the seller asserts is an actual reading.
The 3.0-liter DOHC 16-valve inline-four is engineered with variable valve timing and was factory rated at 236 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque when new. Service history has been comprehensive throughout the car’s lifetime as illustrated in the CARFAX report. An oil change was performed in September 2020 and other recent maintenance included service to the air conditioning system in 2019, and replacement of the timing belt, water pump, valve cover gasket, camshaft seal, and steering gear 2017. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed manual transaxle.
The CARFAX report shows no accidents or damage on record.
